Pushing a battery too hard; over-discharging a battery too low in voltage and too quickly; hard-shorting a battery. Using a battery with inadequate amps and too low (sub ohm) coil resistance.

Looks like everyone above has hit every possible answer. Just in case your into rebuilding make sure your not shorting out. Coils touching the deck, touching the barrel, leads touching the coil on dual coil set ups. There are alot of causes, but no matter what the case make sure you do not proceed vaping a hot battery! If your testing the sub ohm waters make sure the battery you have has a high enough amp rating. I run a sony 30 amp 18650 and have had no issues with any of my sub ohm builds. keep it safe and VAPE ON!

This ^^^. You are discharging the battery too fast. Baditude covered the details pretty well :).

If this is happening to you I strongly suggest you stop using that setup until you figure out what the issue is and fix it or you risk the battery venting and that can be dangerous. You didn't give any info on your setup so we can't help you diagnose why it's happening. Tell us what devices you're using, the resistance of the atty, the battery you're using and we can give you some opinions on what to investigate.

I'm using an eGo-c twist. This is my first device graduating from e-cigs from the local gas stations.
I use it a lot and probably fall under the category of overuse. Vaping helped me quit smoking and
I don't intend to use it any less frequently than I do already. Any suggestions?

I would take a q-tip and clean out the connection area really well. Sometimes a little bit of juice can leak in there and get it dirty, which can cause a bad connection.

It's pretty hard to use an Ego battery often enough to cause a problem with it, so I don't think it's overuse. Are you taking it off of the charger when it finishes charging? How old is it?

It may be due to the carto or tank you're putting on top of the eGo. Do you know what resistance (ohms) it is, or it's supposed to be? For an eGo around 2 ohms is a good vape without over stressing your battery. If you have a multi-meter that you can measure the resistance, that would be great. If not, it's a good investment, fairly cheap, and a vaping accessory that will be useful for years, no matter what setup you use....:vapor:

Does the batt get hot while charging??? Or while vaping???

If it's while charging, Houston We Have a Problem!! While vaping, likely the outside of the device is being heated by transference from the hot atomizer.

Either way, sounds like you should look into your first regulated mod with changeable batts. That is if you plan to continue vaping long-term.

Vape long and Prosper.!!!

I would agree. You need an upgraded regulated device with changeable batteries. If it were me, the one that got hot would be in the trash. Batteries are cheap compared to reconstructive surgery on your face.

When I use my Ego-Twist (900mah) with a Protank Mini and chain vape -- the metal on the Protank Mini (the skirt portion that holds the coil) does get very very warm. It helps to have multiple devices you can switch between so your coils (and the metal around them) can cool down.

Ah. I have fallen asleep while it was charging. Should I not do that again? It does not get hot while connected to the charger, though.
I am new to this so I can't answer all the tech ?'s. I don't have a spec manual. I'll try keeping it clean.
Thought I might buy a second battery while first is charging. Thanks, everyone, for the help.

Having a second one is always a good idea - these little batteries are pretty cheaply made and die out relatively quickly.

That said, a new ego twist battery is about $20. For the cost of 2 of them, you could get yourself a high quality variable wattage device that will last A LOT longer than 2 ego twists, give you a better vape, and even let you charge your cellphone when you're away from a power source - if I were in your position, I'd take a look at the MVP 2 before you drop $20 on a new battery. It'll work better and save you money in the long run.

Innokin iTaste MVP V2.0 - 101 Vape

With things like this available for $40, I feel like the ego batteries are a waste of money. Just my two cents.

+1 on that idea! I've got 2. They also come in an Energy Edition and a Shine Edition for about $10 more. And you can always order a wrap from J-Wraps.
