Hey guys, just wanted to share an experience I've been having lately with a hot leg on my RM2. NOTE: My brain works slow and I am not an electronics guru by any stretch. I hope this story may help out another REOnaut with similar issues.

The story starts when I installed my new upgrade kit and also tried KGD for the first time. For some reason I was getting a burnt taste even though it appeared that the micro's I was building were perfect and glowing well from the inside out. I figured it was either the new cotton or the new contacts were magnifying minor defects in my coils. Changing the cotton for wicks didn't fix it. More coils built with different bends and kinks - same issues. Dang it man, I have built many, many coils with no issues at all! Is my wire defective? Am I losing my frickin mind? Getting bummed...

Well, here it is. I had a post on my RM2 that would loosen up when I unscrewed the screw to change coils, and I figured that when I tightened the post screw installing the coil that it would tighten that post back down. Driving home today and thinking about it, I thought, "hey dumbayuss, make sure that RM2 post is tight!" Needless to say, when I got home and took some pliers to that pesky post and torqued it good, the hot leg disappeared!!!

If you're having similar issues with hot legs or a burnt taste on your RM2, make sure you go after those posts to make sure they are tight!

Hmmm. I just got my 1st rio and rm2 today. Everything taste burnt, despite nothing being burnt - wick, coil, they look fine. I tried rebuilding the coil 3 separate times, each time, same thing. Ohm meter says goos, cotton looks fine, but burnt!! I was about to give up on this thing - how does one go about checking that post? The screws feel tight, coil is in there good. Please tell.

Would you be able to post a few pix of your build - top, front and side?

Also wire gauge and ohms of the build? My guess is possibly too thick of cotton wick But pix would surely help.

Also, did you soak the RM2 in alcohol then rinse and dry to remove machine oils ?

The pics super-x is asking for would be helpful for sure. The issue I was having was not with the screws in the posts, but the posts themselves being loose. They are screwed in to the base of the RM2 and can loosen. Take a small pair of pliers and gently tighten them to make sure they are snug. Hopefully, that might help with your burning issues - assuming the problem is a hot leg on your coil.

Thanks for the info Stringer. The one I just got off the classies was giving me a hot leg. I have been searching through older posts trying to troubleshoot it. I thought I had the loose post snugged, but either I didn't get it enough or it worked loose. Problem solved :)

Outstanding Mrs C! I'm really glad it helped.
