Hey all,

Been building for awhile and have rarely had issues with hot legs except w/ gennies+ mesh. My go to style is a 1/16" microcoil with either 26awg or 28 awg kanthal.

On a lark, I made a twisted 28 micro for my Octopus today. 5/6 @0. 35. Insane vapor, decent flavor, a little hot for my taste but good, and sooo responsive.

Problem is, the neg leg is glowing like a firefly. I recompressed the coil and made sure the posts are tight. No improvement. I realigned the coil to make sure the pos/neg legs are equal length. Still glowin.

Anyone else see this before? I haven't playedwith twisted wire much , but I'm fairly stumped. I find myself wondering
if the negative post/threads have started to strip somehow.. But it feels as firm as ever!

Ever think about taking 30ga wire, folding it in 1/2 and using a hook (paperclip or allen wrench) in a drill to twist the wire.

On all mine with twisted wire I don't get those hotspots between the wick and center post...

On my AGA-T2 with 30ga 12 wraps got me to 1.5Ω-1.7Ω, I am sure with 6-7 wraps you would be sitting right at 1Ω

But I don't sub ohm, my target resistance is right at 2.0Ω because I APV or kick all my rigs...but that's just me

I'd like to give this a try but i'm not sure I understand the procedure, do you end up with two strands twisted together, or a single twisted strand?

Any chance of posting a picture showing what the wire looks like just before you start wrapping the coil?

Cheers!

You end up with 2 strands twisted together. It is simply easier to do this using one long strand of wire folded over itself making two side-by-side strands which are then twisted together. The allen wrench or parperclip is used to hook through the closed (loop) end of the wire and do the twisting.

Fold one long piece of wire in half, making a loop at one end. Grab the other end (which is just the two ends of your single wire) using a pair of pliers. Hook an allen wrench through the loop, and twist the bejeezus out of it. I usually stop twisting once the wire begins to bend instead of just tightening its twists.

Hmm, how does this affect the resistance? For instance, using 32 gauge and 4/3 wraps, I usually end up at 1.4 oHms on my genny. How much would the resistance differ using a double strand wire?

Do you find that using two strands affects the vape? I noticed that some people use double strands for other RBAs like the Kayfun, but I never paid much attention to how it turned out.

^When using twisted wire, you're essentially making a dual coil in one coil=half of the resistance of that single strand of wire. I find it effective if you don't have the gauge wire that equals the resistance of the twisted wire.. I think it may offer more throat hit from the random spaces of coil to wick from the twists.

Make sure you're twisting it fully. I've only noticed hot legs when the twists aren't solid/consistent throughout the wire.
