Unfortunately, nothing sensual here.

I was just wondering if anyone has had issues with hot legs on their coils?

What do you when:

1. Using an RDA
2. Coil heats up evenly
3. But when it gets hot, the leg leading to the negative post starts to glow
4. So when wicks are not extremely soaked (or sometimes even when wicks are soaked)
5. Dry hits start to occur (very unpleasant)
6. The side of the wick in contact with the hot leg usually dries up faster

Background

1. The RDA was set up by the vendor
2. Recently changed the coil
3. Wasted many wires and had to keep rewicking
4. Dry hits so unpleasant possibly the result of an ulcer outbreak
5. Did research online which has been unhelpful so far
6. Need to get the wicks to get dryer without high risk of burning wicks to allow for cleaner flavours between juice changes
7. Totally no issue getting the wicks close to 90% dryness in previous coil
8. Now, reload everytime it hits 70% thereabouts
9. Wasting juice and makes it very inconvenient
10. Wasted a lot of wire to try to get things right (this is not sustainable, and things are still not right)

It usually happens to me when
1) the coils are too gunked up
2) wick is too tight
3) legs are touching or too near the attys' body

I dunno these are just my experiences... There are more ppl with greater experience =)
Thanks! It's probably (3) which online sources say is a cause of hot legs. Moved further away but still same result.
(1)/(2) unlikely because hot legs shows up when dry burning new coil.
Thanks anyway!

Contrary to popular myth you can have hot leeds even with a standard open wind. A good percentage of common clearomizer coils before current sub-Ω variety would fail this way. Yes, definitely faulty termination is the culprit. But marginal termination with bad wick contact, asymmetry, unbalanced strain can conspire to produce higher resistance in operation sending leads hot. Whether a spaced or contact coil turn coherence and balanced strain can virtually eliminate the phenomenon. Learning to build this way consistently will give you a marvelously productive and rewarding vape.

Good luck and a great Thanksgiving weekend.

Actually.. Mouth ulcers might not be caused by dry hit. It could be because you're quitting analogs thsts why. It happened to me when o started vaping and totally quitted my analogs.

Drink more water and bonjela, back to your wiring, usually it's because you're screws aren't tight enough, loosen your sick, less is more, I'll usually aim for loose cotton wick and fluff the ends to absorb better.

And, as much as you waste wires on recoiling, being able to achieve a good vape is worth much more

When test firing my coils, and I see an uneven heating up, and/or hot legs, I use the mandrel I wound the coil on, inserting it gently into the coil and drawing it back and forth a few times, then remove the mandrel, and test fire again. Almost always, doing this 1-3 times, will solve the problem. Do not fire the coil while the mandrel is inserted in the coil. Hope this helps.
