I think we've all dealt with the hot pocket before. You throw your pv in your pocket, only later to discover its on.

This isnt a new. You take it out, let it cool off, and thats that.

But recently i had what i would call an "extreme" hot pocket. Specifically, the button jammed into an on position.

What i didnt expect was that the thing didnt activate its auto-cutoff. It just kept getting hotter and hotter. When i originally noticed it - it had already melted my atomizer casing, and was hot enough that touching the connection end would hurt like hell. Glad i wore loose clothing that day. I set it down, thinking it would deactivate once it was out of my pocket. When smoke started coming off, and glowing embers remained, i realized this thing wasnt going to shut off.

In a panic, i started trying to get what was left of my atomizer disconnected. I stepped on the atomizer, and twisted it out. Unable to touch anything near the connection end, this was no easy feat. Once it was out i realized i didnt know if it was actually off. It was still frighteningly hot...so afraid the thing would blow up, i tried to fix the button, but the only solution was to push the button inside the casing with my keys (thus destroying my eGo).

I left a trail of smoke, the smell of burnt plastic and a number of confused onlookers.

So...my question is this. Why did it not deactivate? It has a 10sec cutoff from what i know. And beyond that - had i not destroyed the thing, what would/could of happened?

I've had a similar experience but with a Buzz. Once the PCB or MOSFET switch (eGo/riva) start to go out or do go out, one of 2 things occur. They either shutoff and never come on or the opposite. My Buzz became possessed and stayed on. I sent it in for repair to be informed that the PCB had fried which was causing an open circuit (I think that's the correct phrase)...button didn't affect if a bit.

I wasn't aware of a cutoff on manual batteries either. I cooked an atomizer just the other day by leaving my PV in my pocket. All of a sudden, I felt something hot against my leg. I pulled out my PV and it nearly burnt my hand. It didn't pop the atomizer, but now it tastes all burnt and crappy. The battery seems to be fine. Sorry to hear your experience didn't go as well. :(

@dormouse it was a standard eGo XL. LR atty, drip tip. Nothin fancy, but gets the job done.

I have every intention of grabbin a mod at some point, but for now im stocked up on LR atties and figure i might as well finish up those before i start buyin more things. Plus by the time im done - new and better mods will be out. I buy bulk, so i have a lot. =)

I knew about the risk of it going off in your pocket <insert joke here>. I always thought it would shut itself off. Thats the point of the cutoff. I dont know what would happen if it had been out of sight. If it just burns out the battery - thats fine. No safety risk there. But knowing batteries have a tendancy to explode, im a little wary.

@untitledblue at least your mind went to food. Given all the other meanings of hot pocket - its the least offensive. =)

Are all eGo models prone to do this, or do some come with mechanical switches? What companies that have an eGo style PV sell them with mechanical switches? I always carry mine in my pocket and am now really really worried the auto switch could turn on & stay on. I went to a local Vape Shop today, was all set to buy one for my next piece, & decided to sleep on it instead, cause I don't need a possible roman candle stuck to my leg!!

    in a cave, eh?
I don't think your auto will turn on by itself. However, the older models used to activate with loud sounds, wind, etc.

If you're looking for a replacement battery, the eGo-T battery has a shutdown feature. Press the button 5 times quickly and it'll shut off until you press it 5 times quickly again.

And that's the closest thing most mass-manufactured kits have to a mechanical switch. There are button covers available for the Riva and eGo to prevent the thing from firing. The eGo carrying case is also nice if you have a big pocket (it's about the size of a hardshell pencil case) or briefcase to stuff it in.
