I'm a super n00b here, just signed up today. Go easy on me.....

I got my HotCig DX200 from Gearbest and one of the 3 cells on my battery pack is completely dead causing the battery to not charge. Gearbest isn't being very helpful with a return so my questions are:

Is it easy to replace the battery?

If so, where can I get one?

Further, what size, brand, type do you all recommend?

Thank you for any and all help!

Have you tried a recovery charge through escribe? It could help. It brought my batteries back.
Rumor has it that replacement battery modules will be sold soon. These are the same as the ones that come with the mods so they will just snap right in.
It appears that the battery is the same size as the ones used by Evolve for their beta mod. They sell these batteries on their website. Unfortunately, replacing would require soldering. Not impossible but difficult since the wires you are soldering to will have full battery voltage across them with a chance of sparks or battery destruction.

When you say dead its totally drained aka 0.00 volts or just heavy discharged like 0.xx? You could try recovery charge via escribe. Read the previews pages and you will find how to.

So,given they're the same price. Is the hotcig still recommended over the hcigar?
Quote me if i am wrong but i think that so far its one of the best production box out there in terms of quality. I love the battery design that it can be easily interchangable and of course its 510 threading is ss while hcigar is not. Both are awesome mods though.

Hmm, how many have you tried out of curiosity. Or laid hands on? Just curious what you're qualifying that with?

The destructively flat batteries, that can't be charge off device with the included charger seem to be a pretty recurring theme. Let alone potentially dangerous.

Outside of that subjectively it's really ugly. A lot of that could be improved by removal of the stupid logo.

How well does the button lock work and how easily does it pocket fire?

Is the case temp set accurately? Did they do anything to set it up properly or just jam components into a box?

What would make you say it's better than say the vapor shark. Opus. Or the hcigar(anything outside the threading)?

This is in no way am indictment of your statement I'm seeking explanation and qualification.

Until you ground the battery there is no any danger of battery destruction. I am not a pro in soldering, i could say i am pretty much average but look what i did 1 month ago, 18 samsung 25r in 6s3p (i can say that i can vape all day and not need recharge! :p )

Dont get me wrong my friend, i said its one of the best box out there. I never said the rest sucks. Its something about personal taste too. The non personal taste that makes it superior than the rest in same price category is yeah the ss510. My daily rig is a subtank mini that i have to remove it from the box to fill it up. And its like 3-4 times daily.. If you have experience from non ss 510 threading you know what happens when you remove it, in daily basis. About the opus and vs i dont own these but hey, its 2x expensive than the hotcig product.

A noob question here but better safe than sorry.

After you set the battery charge properties at escribe is it possible to charge the box with a normal 2A Samsung charger?

I'm asking cause I read that the dna usb charger is 1A whilst the Samsung charger is 2A.

Probably you can but I don't lose anything to ask here and be 100% sure that the battery will be charged smoothly and the cells will be balanced.

Also to report that I charged the battery separately with the hotfire charger and in escribe the cells were 4.26 4.23 4.23.

Should I be scared with the number 4.26?

Go for it, i charge my box with lg charger 2ah too. Its not matter how many ah you ll give. The internal circuit will get max 1ah from your charger. No reason to scare about overcharge too. I own 2 more "quality" chargers for my drone and the tend to overcharge a bit. Imo stick with usb charging as long you dont have a spare battery. At least in escribe gives the most accurate voltage/charging.

The humble opinion of one that owns the VS-VT-DX200.
Since the charging time is long on the non zip charge dna200 mods the Hotcig is better than the VT because its very easy to swap lipo's.
As for charging the spare lipo a 10 Euro charger can take care of that.
All 3 mods have subpar 510 connections.
I pick up the VS first then the DX. My VT sits there collecting dust.

I'm surprised to read so many complaints about the vs, they've been doing this so long and are associated as a premium brand. But every time they release something I see a ton of complaints. But a subpar 510'really surprises me.

The opus 510 silver coating is apparently pointless. It managed to wear off on mine in less than a month. So I don't really get why he bothers. Also so,e shipped not fully tightened and on mine the heat shrink was too far up preventing full range of motion of the spring load.

Additionally the support and knowledge level of the opus creator is extremely lacking. I sent in for repair at which point they returned it saying nothing was wrong (they didn't reach out to me to tell them steps to replicate the issues). Before I realized it was the heat shrink (I think is is the issue and had mentioned the short throw ). Additionally I was told two amp charging worked via their leaflet in the box and on,h after s few emails did they have the right answer , it doesn't as discussed...furthermore I was told ,as a newcomer to Evolv, that titanium wire was supported out of the box, that I just needed to build with it and it would work... You can imagine how that worked out.

So that's my opus experience. Since which time I've been refunded.

The box itself is pretty nice outside of the weird 510 issues that seem to have wound up being the heat shrink tubing, the battery takes a while to change considering capacity./ useful vape time It was a very strange decision for Evolv to limit to 1a charging. I'm sure there were reasons (I'd love to know them) because building in lipo requirements and usb port charging you'd think they'd want to make it faster.

The opus is probably great for someone wanting to spend $230 who needs absolutely no support and expects nothing outside of the box. Someone who will conduct their own repairs and already know or have researched the dna200. For an average consumer, not a great choice.

I should add ultimately and after some bs the issue was resolved by their allowing a return to manufacturer and in a relatively amicable way.

Given there are no mailing labels and for full disclosure i have yet to return the device as I'm sitting were waiting for brain surgery and can't drive. I expect to send it back to them this week. (I add his lest they post later if he / they wind up upset by my candor , stating I was refunded and it hasn't been returned. There's no intention to keep the refund and the box, just problems getting to the post..) I should also note the repair process was completed with communication all instigated by me and with no return labels there.

For a $230 mod, I personally expect top notch customer support, mailing labels for repair, a cable in the box, and a bit more / better packaging as well as a high level of knowledge offered in support.

I think the reason you see "so many" complaints about the Vaporsharks is because they move so many units, and while the vast majority of them are fine, some have issues, and those users with issues post them.

I like my VS200 just fine, haven't had any issues, but at the same time I generally don't make posts saying, yep, the VS200 is still fine.

True. I guess they just move a lot compared to other manufacturers like opus or the smaller boutique guys

I haven't looked for a vs200 thread. It was going to be my choice for replacement initially.

For me size is the biggest factor and there is no small dna200 mod and never will be
The smallest dna200 I have is the evolv beta/reference unit, and its still tallish.

Tall is better than thick for pocket ability for me.

Weight matters too.
Accepting there won't ever be a small dna200 mod means basically I may as well get one with huge battery capacity.

Is argue the best option for me right now may be a boxer. They're small labeling very unfriendly to pocket but they're incredibly light. Not without design annoyances. Anyway. I honk maybe my dna200 quest may be over. Unless someone makes a single 18650 mod and limits it to 40-50 watts which would be just fine for me. I'd be fine with a 30 watt version of this chip.

Seems like you have experience with a. Lot of the dba200 mods.

Not really, I have three of them, the VS200, the evolv one, and the flawless one. Of the three, I like the flawless one the best, but that's just my personal opinion, it feels the best to me.

Here's a tall skinny one: http://www.protovapor.com/product/xpv-dna-200d-extended-capacity/

It's too goofy for me, but it could be cool, looks like it takes 18650s too? Maybe.
