Yes, you want to up your voltage to get more vapour out of a higher resistance atty. :D:D

Defining which is better is up to the individual user really - that's why it's nice to have soooooo many options for everyone. :)

The actual resistance as measured by a multimeter is not the end of the story though. The resistance probably (and I haven't measured it) goes up when hot, so what is really needed is to measure the current at the applied voltage when hot. An incandescent light bulb has a low resistance when cold (measure one and see!), if you calculate the power when run at 115AC or 230V AC using the formula (V*V)/R you usually get a value much greater than the bulb rating. So it depends on the temperature coeficient of resistance of the coil/heating element.

Anyone done this measurement?

It seems to me the ideal way of powering the atty is to provide a larger current while it heats up from cold, then reduce that current as it heats up. If the atty's had a thermocouple in it this could form part of a closed loop. Alternatively measuring the resistance (by measuring the current) might get you a close approximation to its current temperature as the first order approximation to resistance at a particular temperature is R = Ro(1 + a*T), i.e. linearly dependent on temperature.

Yes I've been thinking of something similar lately, because I'm the kind who vapes heavily and whom atty rarely gets cold. And I always noticed that when the atty is cold, it vapes much better than after a while, when it becomes really hot, even with a fresh new battery.

A cold and fresh atty might even sometimes vape with a fresh 3.7V battery, better than a hot atty on 6V...At least that is what i noticed sometimes.

Mist, I believe what you are noticing is the battery's temp going up with repeated use without breaks, and therefore producing less current. When a battery is in a cold state it will put out more voltage. At least from my readings on batteries their temp has an effect on performance. The weather has taken a turn for the cold here and I am noticing a slight imporvement in battery performance.

And as for Porky's post. Lisa was refering to the new High Resistance iAtties that are for sale now. They provide the user with a much higher resistance coil that can handle 7.4v easily. They can even handle 9v as Imeo has demonstrated. I do agree with your post however and that is a very scientific way of looking at it.

Hope this clears the air a bit...
