How bad are bad cartos?

I bought a Caro tank and some prepunched cartos from a local b&m because I wanted to try them out. When I asked the dude working what brand they were, because they weren't labeled, he had no idea. I figured eff it and bought it and a couple extra cartos in case I screwed one (or two) up, went home watched some videos again, primed the carto, filled the tank and went at it. Throat hit was great, nice warm vape and the flavor of the juice was stronger than any of the clearos I have. Except! Big except, there was also an underlying taste of what I can only assume is polyfill. Not overpowering, but enough that I could clearly taste it. I was disappointed but kept vaping it to see if the flavor would dissipate. It didn't. So I tried again the next day; same thing. So I put it down for a month, and just tried again; once again, same weird underlying taste.

Now, almost everything else in the shop is SmokTech, and they also have the Artemis tank, so I would think these might be Smoktech also, but I don't really know.

My question is- could these be ....ty China cartos? Could I be doing something wrong? Am I just one of the "lucky" ones who can taste polyfill from a mile away? Should I try again with a different type of cartos?

I think cartos always have a different flavor than clearos. That said, I think the taste diminishes over a little time. I've been using a Smoktech carto tank for a while, and tend to prefer it over my other tanks and clearos, due to its huge capacity. I ordered some Smoketech cartos online, should be genuine, and they do not have any markings on them to distinguish them from a fake, so I don't know if there is a way to tell.
