On a recipe that I intended to use 6%TFA French Vanilla, I instead accidently used
6%Capella French Vanilla V2.

Does anyone have any idea how similar in strength these two flavors are?

I just left it to steep, instead of having my wife do a S&V test. It's for her.

I intended to make the following:

Strawberry Vanilla Test-2
Nicotine Strength 12.00 mg
PG Level 50.00%
VG Level 50.00%
Flavor Level 7.00%
Amount to Make 30.000 ml

Ingredients Ing % Weight Volume
nic salt PG100 12.00% 3.726 g 3.600 ml
PG 31.00% 9.653 g 9.300 ml
VG 50.00% 18.900 g 15.000 ml
French Vanila (The Flavor Apprentice) 6.00% 1.868 g 1.800 ml
Sweet Strawberry (Capella) 0.50% 0.156 g 0.150 ml
Strawberry Juicy (Flavor Art) 0.50% 0.156 g 0.150 ml

Make up another batch with the Cap at same %. Mix the two (just as you have with the strawberry. Adj %'s as you like and enjoy!

Good luck. :)

p.s. Up your fruit! Unless you're a vanilla fan. Check recipe flavoring guides, not just vendor, for a mean or avg that most enjoy for mixed and single-use. Dev a starting point, say 2% and move up from there (most importantly for your primary flavor). Look up the TFA flavoring thread and Bill's blog. Use his 100 drop test to check your assumptions before batching.

Looks like none at all (percent wise) per e-liquid Recipes median recommended mix percentage. Both mfg'rs about the same %, although CA has ~5,000 more folks using it.

Yeah, the CAP is generally best as a base mixer. TFA's v2 has some unique to me custardy attributes despite being v2. It's great shake and vape but with slightly fuller spicier fruitier finish as it oxidizes. These notes meld neatly with steeping yielding a delicious red-amber color in 3-5 days. Really like the latter as a secondary.

Good luck. :)

Everyone is Looking for something Different when it comes to a Taste. And Mistakes can sometimes Open New Directions in doing DIY.

For Me, and My tastes, I find Vanilla(s) to be Strong Flavors. And can Easily Overpower a Mix. Especially when Blended with Non-Bold Fruit flavors.

I think you Total Flavoring Percentages are very Reasonable. So if you Can't Taste the Strawberry, I would suggest Decreasing the Vanilla (maybe by A lot!) and Increasing the Strawberry. Keeping the Total Flavoring Percentage the Same.

Verses leaving the Vanilla where it is, and Adding more Strawberry.

A Weak Flavor has a Hard Time Dominating a Strong Flavor. And too much Total Flavoring, to Me, just Tastes like Chemical Meh.

I think you are doing the right thing just letting it steep and seeing how you like the result.

I'd also agree perhaps balancing a bit more fruit than vanilla, although personally I have little experience with vanillas they tend to make me hoarse (have tried several) and I'll often sub in a Bavarian cream or a cream of some sort.

Best of luck, as you won't really know until it steeps whether you have a "winner' or not, and perhaps making a comparison mix might be useful, so you know for the future which will wind up the "preferred recipe".

Mistakes happen.... and sometimes they are fantastic. LOL.

Thanks for all the replies! I had a long work day, and couldn't check back. The reason for the high vanilla to fruit ratio, is because that's what suits her taste.

She used to mix 1 part strawberry to 5 parts French Vanilla pre-made juice, so my first test I did 1% total layered Strawberry, and 3% French Vanilla, and she still said it was too much strawberry, and she couldn't taste the vanilla. That was after like a 2 week steep at that, LOL!

So, I wanted to up the vanilla, but ended up grabbing the wrong bottle, and we hadn't tried yet with the Cap-V2.

You all reassured me, with your replies, and I'll think she'll like it fine. Just figured leave it steep a little before testing.

Somethin's amiss bover (but it might not be the mix).

Except for FA, following are typical results from ELR DIY forum user results. It's a rather good index of what most find appealing…

Avg mix quantity: 2.7% (Median: 2%) French Vanilla - Capella
Avg mix quantity: 2.9% (Median: 2%) French Vanilla - TPA
Avg mix quantity: 4.5% (Median: 4%) Sweet Strawberry - Cap
FA recommened: 2-3% Strawberry Juicy (Flavor Art)

Note: ^% rel to overall mix inc. nic+ vg/pg.

The median is my usual starting point (even lower from time to time) and very small graduations upward for adjustment. Primary flavors first, then accents.

Your ratio for vanilla, unless you're using super concentrates which you're not, should be overwhelming the fruit IMO. I mix for myself and a small following related to my studies on rebuilding. So I have a good sample beyond my own experience.

The beauty of DIY is that even as we go through phases after quitting we have the absolute control of flavor/test results.

Your situation is a truly primo case as to why we absolutely need open systems and flavor control in this activity…just like we enjoy in the kitchen! It could mean the difference between success and failure. A worthwhile effort or a waste of time and money.

Appreciate this opportunity to comment and emphasize this bover.

Best of luck to you guys. :)

Thank you.

Yeah, IDK she likes to taste the vanilla up front, and just have barely a hint of strawberry. Thats what she likes, so, i have to mix small batches, and have her test, and sooner or later we'll find her sweet spot. Happy wife is a happy life, lol.

I cant stand vaping strawberry vanilla, so I just have to rely on her feedback, and adjust accordingly, lol.

Just like she can't help me with my DIY NET's.

If your Wife wants just a Hint of Strawberry, then you Recipe makes a lot more Sense.

I'll just throw this out. Vanilla by itself can be somewhat Bitter. Vanilla in Baking is seldom used when Sugar is not also used.

So if the Total Flavoring has that much Vanilla in it, you might find that She will like a Touch of Sweetener added to it.

I had been looking for a vanilla since I started vaping that could be vaped as a standalone flavor. After 7 years I finally found it----Hangsen vanilla @6%. Super taste and don't have to add anything to it. It may be a good thing for you to look into. I got mine at Nicotine River but I would imagine a lot of vendors carry it.

Hangsen Vanilla

Maybe try out a small bottle to see if she likes it???

just my 2 pennies.

You sure have that right....I can't tell you how long I tried to make the perfect vanilla vape(see my last post). I must have every variation any flavor maker makes. LOL

Yeah... Some Flavors seem to have a Myriad of Subtle Variations. Kinda like when you go to Choose a Paint Colour.

OT: But you have tried OSDIY's Vanilla Bean Ice Crème? Right?

For a Single Flavoring Recipe, that is one of my Favorites.

And, of course, you can "Bend" it by adding something like Butterscotch or Hazelnut.

I did not know OSDIY had an Vanilla Bean Ice Cream flavor. Can you post a link, I couldn't find it on their web site.
Caps Vanilla Bean taste better to me than TFA's. They are similar but...

TFA gelato taste like ice cream(to me) it just not as heavy as the other ice cream flavors....good stuff.

My Mistake. It is made by Flavor Apprentice.

Flavor Apprentice - Vanilla Bean Icecream* - 30mL

I got some at the Same time I got some OSDIY Blue Raspberry Slush, I had it in my head that OSDIY made it.

Well bov, how'd you make out? Doin the happy yet?

Good luck. :)
Well, so far it seems pretty promising. Still steeping, but I have her sampling it periodically. I've read time is needed for vanilla's to mature and balance out with fruits. I'll drop a "final report" in a week or two.

Now me, on the other hand, I'm having a ball doing my DIY NET extractions! Currently Peter Stokkbye #84 Turkish is my ADV!:vapor:

Thanks!
