The prices are determined by what the market will support and the maker's overhead.

A cheap, $20 box mod with VV capability is possible, but how's a man supposed to make a living from selling them? mods like this are a boutique operation, no? A factory-sized commercial operation would certainly make a profit, but at what investment cost?

The industry is still young, and although prices have been falling over the last 2 years (from what I can see) I think we still have a ways to go before we see mass-produced mods (VV or otherwise) coming from the major manufacturers at a sub-$20 price point.
