So, I usually buy my nic from the main 2 sources. One is always out and the other... well

I'd rather not get it there but sometimes I have to.

Anyway, I recently tried a new place, just a little 120 ml bottle to test it out.

I open up my mailbox and there is a package wrapped in plastic wrap and put in a bag.

So I knew this thing had opened in transit. It looked like it was jammed up in some kind of gear or sorter.

I get this package inside and decide to Photograph the process of me opening this package.

THe stench was horrid. My wife was taking pix i was trying to peel the layers of plastic off. I started feeling strange, I told the wife to go outside.

I contained the package and sealed it up and tossed it in the garb.

So to the question. If i started feeling strange with gloves and a mask on, then what about the postal workers who had no idea what this liquid was?

Would we ever know if anyone got really sick from this accident? More to come...

Who is responsible? Obviously the sender.

But I definitely understand your concern. I suspect incidents like this (among other things) will lead to the banning of high-nicotine liquid sales to the public. (To be honest, I'm surprised that they even allowed this in the first place.)

Having said that, there are ways to ship dangerous liquids. My ex-husband (we're still good friends) deals with the chemicals used to strip furniture and has to ship things occasionally. But it has to be done right.

Question - you say it was 'wrapped in plastic wrap and put in a bag'? Was that how it was shipped or could something have happened to the original packaging and the post office wrapped it and put it in the bag?

This is something I've been worried about for years.
If i were you I'd call the company you bought it from and give them an earful.
There's no excuse for the shoddy packaging that many vendors use to ship nic.

Just a little more insight,

the 120 ml bottle just had a regular screw cap ( not childproof) and wasn't sealed or anything. that was then wrapped in 1 layer of bubble wrap, put in a paper envelope.

I did contact the vendor, and explained the danger. the vendor is a chemist btw and i dont know why i needed to tell him to pack things better.

So they sent me a replacment, same size bottle, same packaging little bigger paper envelope.

Luckily the second shipment didn't break, but I couldnt believe that they sent it essentially the same way after the talk we had.

If it wasn't legal to ship it via air then the reputable places wouldn't be doing it. I've only bought from WL and they package in bubble wrap then THREE heavy sealed bags. Bombproof. One bottle leaked a smidge, probably from altitude, never escaped the bubble wrap. Their packaging is amazing, kind of like Christmas when you get something from them. I don't know who your vendor is but I'd never order from them again. I do appreciate your concern for those that may come into contact with your package.

40-60mg is the ld-50 of nic, so there is that much nic in every 1 ml of 100mg/ml

I was actually reading a thread on reddit discussing the "commonly accepted" lethal dose of nicotine for humans.. it seems that figure may be much like the advice to drink "6 glasses of water per day", and "every fingerprint is 100% unique".. an assumption made a long time ago with no real basis in reality - and quite likely incorrect.

certainly if 100mg nicotine was as menacing as reported, someone here in the usa would have won a darwin award by now.

as for dangers to post-office personel, I doubt they're licking up spills of any undetermined liquids, and I'm pretty certain theyre wearing gloves as well.

I buy all my bug killer & weed killer online & it ships usps without a hitch.. I had 20 pounds of gunpowder & 20,000 pistol primers delivered via ups a couple months ago - the driver wasn't in a bunny-suit, nor did he drive an armored vehicle..

lots of "dangerous" products travel the roads & through the post every day, no need to give the nanny-whiners an excuse to single out nicotine for special treatment.
