How do you cut Japanese cotton pads correctly into wicks?

Hello,

I have been playing with Japanese cotton and I think my wicks are way too dense. While they fit in the coil properly and are big enough, flavor is muted though there is plenty of vapor. I know that it should be performing better, and have had friends make wicks for me that were some of the best vapes I have had.

I have been cutting strips and rolling the entire strip to slide through the coil. Is there a better/proper way of doing this?

Peel the pad in half and cut a strip. Peel away stray fibers. Just twist the tip, you really don't need to roll it. Thread of through there should be some resistance. The cotton in the coil section will curl up on itself nicely and the tail ends will be left curled.

This is how I've been doing wicks with kohgendo and it works well.

Make sure you are cutting the strips parallel with the grain of the cotton. If you pull across in one direction, the strands will separate. In the other direction, they will not. The direction that does not want to separate is the grain of the cotton. Cut you strips in that direction.

Cut the strips to width, then split that to the thickness you need.

If you have not tried Rayon (CelluCotton), I highly recommend it. I prefer it to JC for its ease of handling.

You're welcome. It's also important to keep the long fibers straight. That's why I don't roll it, so the long fibers stay intact.

Less is more. Definitely pull it apart with the direction of the fiber. I like to keep it fluffy, I try and rope it through where it is snug but can easily be moved side to side so when it expands it gets the maximum amount of juice to the coils, but its not too tight where it limits juice to the coil. Getting it fluffed up is the way to go, you don't want it dense. Thats why I recommend not rolling it, you can roll the ends to wick it through....but Keep the center fluffy as can be.
