set it on fire.....

vape it till it tastes like poop....

but traditionally you pulse the coil to keep it glowing a dim orange until the wick is completely dry.
that usually dries up all the residue that has been caked on the coil, making it easy to either blow or brush off the now charred residue...
but ideally you want the tank completely empty before dry burning a coil.

to get rid of any juice in a wick that i no longer vape, i just hold a tissue paper to the wick till its dry, then proceed with a dry burn...

but you will still get some of the taste of the old juice, unless you completely torch the wick and wash out the tank....

Question: What device did you cram 100mm of mesh into? That is quite a bit!

I take a 5ml syringe, suck out whatever juice is left in my Genesis then use the syringe + hot cup of water to rinse the Genesis. After the water goes through fairly clear I suck out whatever water is left behind in the tank. After that I dry it off, gently hold some paper towel to the tip of the wick to absorb out some of the water. Screw it onto whatever mod I'm using then heat it up to get the last of the water out. Eventually coils go orange, they will have a gray-ish color when not heated and dry/clean. Blow them off and burn orange 1 more time. Blow one more time, then add a few drops of 0Nic Unflavored to prime the coil. Fill it up and I'm good to go.

Same process applies for a dripper, only instead of a syringe I just rinse it.

Yeh, I know how to dry burn, like the act of dry burning. I was thinking that maybe I need to flush my wick with water or something. If I try to just empty the tank and even if I dry the wick out the best I can, I am setting there with it vaping away for a really long time. I gave up last time and just wiped my coils off with a wet cloth. I am interested in how most people go about it, if they even bother with dry burning at all.

I fit the 100mm of mesh into my AGA-T2. I actually did more like 110mm this last time. Thanks for the info Satava, that is exactly what I thought I would have to do, but I guess I was hoping there was a better answer, or I thought maybe people mostly just replace the coil. I was thinking if I just tried to empty the tank and do a dry burn that I would have a disgusting mess by the time the wick actually got dry enough to turn the carbon to ash. I know from previous experience with non RBA's that a dry burn still doesn't impart the same quality back to the wick/coil as if it was fresh. I am going to try the water wash and see if that gets me acceptable results without having to re-do the coil / take my wick out for cleaning.

*edit* I drilled the AGA's wick hole out to 3.5 mm btw :)

Wow, thats a friggin huge wick hole! lol!!

Yeah the flushing with water really helps break down most of the residual juice in the wick, then gently blotting off some excess really cuts down on the dry time when firing empty.

All in all on a standard wick size my method takes maybe 3-4 minutes. Not bad for a once or twice a week maintinence. I also do this when changing flavors, but I do tend to run the tank down as low as I can to not waste as much juice.

I make my coils using the drill bit method. This allows me to knock the big chunks off with a dentek brush, remove the wick and dry burn the coil. I can usually get by with just rinsing the wick and drying it. If it's really gunked, I'll rinse and then burn the gunk off and rinse again.

I used to do that also but found at higher settings I ended up with juice burn tastes. Also if you dont use tweezers or hemostats on the wick it'll still taste like ..... when you put it back together (Finger Gunk). I just wrap onto the wick now and try to keep everything in place. Once my Natural gets here on Fridayish I'll be wrapping a little tighter and using a mechanical to burn out hotspots for a coil that won't budge when I pocket my mod. Nothing worse than wiggly coils causing hotspots while driving. (Ever take off your cap and adjust coils at 70mph? Not fun!)

when i vaped ss wicks i did 2 different methods. the first was when i wrapped a fairly tight coil where i couldnt twist out the wick, what i did if the gunk was really bad was to just take out the wick with the coils intact. i then rinsed and flamed to clean and re-installed. whenever i did the drill bit method, i just twisted out the wick from the coil and rinsed & flamed then re-installed. also like you with most of my gennys i used about the same amount of mesh, about 100mm of 500 mesh. this was used in my did, ac-9. the aga had a lesser amount as i didnt drill it out. this amount of mesh rolled really tight always performed well with 28g and resistances below 1 ohm. currently i am using the ceramic wicks and have found the flavor to be alot better. good luck
