How do you know when you need a new atomizer?

I'm sure this has been discussed plenty of times, but I can't find an old thread discussing it...

I've got the 510 and i drip directly on the atomizer. Lately i've noticed that it hasnt been working as well as it used to. I'll get a nasty burnt taste more often than not (even when there's plenty of juice) and i don't seem to get as much vapor as I used to. I'm also not getting close to the throat hit that I used to get.

I've tried blowing out the juice and putting more juice in, but it still doesn't seem to help as much. It will still give me that nasty burnt taste. Sometimes it's better than others, but I figured i'd ask the experts.

Do I need to replace the atomizer? I just started vaping and I've been using this same one for about 2 months now. How long do they usually last? If not, is there an easy way to tell when I need to replace the atomizer?

IMO, if you're relying on that single atomizer, you'd better buy one or two more, and pronto! It could be either your atty, or your battery going weak. In any case, if being able to vape is a critical issue to you ... get some redundancy going there. Neither of them lasts forever. They're consumables.

It's a perfectly charged battery and i've already got a new atomizer on there to see if theres any difference. Now I'm dealing with the damn break in period and nasty primer taste, but I'm asking to see if I should just throw this older one out or what...?

I drip also, and it's hell on the atomizer.
I'd give this method a shot: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/69834-my-atty-resurrection-method.html

It's been the most reliable method for me by far.

As long as that atty is still heating up, I wouldn't throw it away.
When it's dead, it won't do anything at all and you'll know it.
Otherwise, may as well try to resurect it, or at least give it a break and keep it around as a "in case of emergency" atty.

OIC. Well, son et lumiere had a good suggestion then. I thought it sounded like you were hanging in there with a single atty.

You can't have too many attys that's for sure. Burnt taste is most likely the wick, whitch BTW you can remove. Since you drip I'd suggest you remove it. There are videos here showing how it's done. I would strongly suggest getting a pair of hemostats to remove it. Tweezers will work, hemostats will work much better. I liked my 510s better wickless. I'm dripping too...

There are a few threads on atomizer resurrection.
Just do a forum search and you should find them. I'm sure there is a video or two.

Personally, I Soak my atty's in boiling carbon filtered water for a few minutes, blow them out and let them sit for a day or two. After I'm sure they are dry i dry burn to make sure i have a nice glow coming off the coil.

Lately I've added citric acid to the water rinse and do a final rinse with vodka so that they dry quicker.

Good luck.
