How do you pick what wattage to vape at?

It's a personal preference thing for the most part.

And it can depend a lot of what e-juice you're using. Different juices may taste better at different settings.

Basically, start low and bump it up until you don't like the way it tastes anymore. Then back it down a bit. With a but of practice, you'll discover the "sweet spot" for each of your juices.

For vv, take the ohms of your topper and add 2. So for a 2Ω clearo add 2+2=4v. Then adjust to taste from there.

Great starting advice. I usually use 2.2 but the idea is the same. Keep in mind the type of atty you use, and the coil if it's a build, can make a difference.

Unless you're building your own coils, a lot of it is trial and error in terms of finding the sweet spot for a particular atomizer or even a particular coil. That's the beauty of adjustable mods.

Start low and work your way up. When you reach the point that it's starting to burn, back it off a bit. For example, when I was vaping on protanks I found that they worked best around 6 or 7 watts--long, airy draws. My current kayfun builds work best above 12 watts.

Sometimes the dry, burnt hits are a result of the atomizer not wicking enough juice.

Yes I'm building my own coils and using a Kayfun also. 1.4-1.6 ohm coils is what I aim for. What do you mean by works best? I find 6 or 7 watts is good but 12+ watts is good too. I guess I just don't know what is a good vape is yet.

For me 'works best' is the power level that I like best with any given hardware setup and the juice I'm using. I run my Kayfun around 15 watts mostly, but some people prefer it at 7 watts. It's got a lot of range without burning most juices depending on how you build it.

If you like it anywhere between 6-12 watts, leave it on one setting for a day then go to the other end for a day. You might find that after a while at one power level you will find yourself changing it. If you really don't prefer any setting in that range over another, run it at 7 watts and you'll use a lot less juice and your batteries will last a lot longer per charge.

All good advise. Stick with the wattage setting at first because that is what your actually getting at the business end. It's a little easier when your changing atty with different ohms. Feel free to change it as much as you want. For example I have been using vv/vw devices for 2 years and I change mind almost constantly. Haha. I guess I chase that sweet spot. Good luck.

I use the lowest wattage I like in terms of flavor and throat hit. A secondary consideration is battery life. The more watts the faster the battery will drain. I don't particularly enjoy swapping out and charging batteries but I don't dislike it either. I like 6.5 to 8.0 watts on my carto tank but that's just me. I have no plans or desire for more watts. I haven't smoked a puff for 27 months so you could say that I know what I like, at least.
