How do you tell if your Sony VTC5s are legit or not?

I order a couple of Sony VTC5s from a place that was recommended in a thread (can't remember if it was here or not). I've had the batteries a little over a week and so far I am not impressed. They aren't bad, but I don't see any improvement over the VTC4s or the original Efests. I picked up an Efest 35 amp 2500 mah battery and I am really blown away with its performance (seems to last almost twice as long as my other batteries, including the VTC5s). Either the VTC5s need to be broken in more, I got fake batteries, or the VTC5s are way overrated. If they are fake, how would I know?

The VTC5 should perform as good as the Efest 2500mah 35A purple, I own both of the batteries you speak of and I get almost identical performance out of them...if I had to pick between the two the VTC5's would be my choice as they're just a little bit better. It's worth noting that the Efest 35A battery is actually an LG 18650HE2 that is re-wrapped with the Efest shrink wrap, 35A is also the pulse discharge rating and NOT the constant discharge rating, they are actually rated at 20A sustained.

Most of my friends who vape are now using the VTC5 and love them, nothing but good things to say. 90% of the employees at the local B&M I frequent swear by the VTC5 as do many of the members of this forum. Perhaps you've been unlucky and got some counterfeit batteries, post some pictures if possible of a few angles of the batteries so those with confirmed genuine VTC5's can do a comparison for you.

No doubt that the LG18650HE2 is a good battery.

I dont use the full 30 amps that a sony US18650VTC5 is capable of as my lowest builds are .45 ohms or so. That said, the LG 20 amp HE2 (mine are not the rewrapped Efest batteries) do perform well for me. They seem to last about as long as the sony in my typical application (used most of the time with my dual coil dripper @ .6 ohms or so).

It's too bad efest is not up front with the actual ratings of batteries that they sell.

Seems like its more of a marketing gimmic that they are employing (and not really well thought out as by efest marketing theory, they could be selling rewrapped vtc5 batts as 60 amp batts).

Also, the LG18650HE2 tends to be priced a buck or two cheaper than the Efest branded ones.

The trickiest part of sub ohm vaping is finding batteries that are actually what thay claim to be sometimes.

I bought them from Triangle Vapes. Everything I've read says their batteries are legit, but they are not acting like it. I'm hoping they just need an extended break in period.

I don't know Triangle Vapes, but if the VTC5 is giving you half the run time of a Efest 35 amp 2500, I suspect something is wrong.

Here's a test of the VTC5. Click on the 5A button for the numbers at 5A. Look at the chart at the bottom of the page in blue. The mAh at 3.6V is 805.

Here's the Efest. It comes in at 817, 1.5% better. So close I consider them the same.

They don't list 10A draw numbers, so if you run down around 0.4 ohms I have no data for you, but I really doubt there would be a sudden huge difference in either direction.

A couple of FYIs for you.

Notice the note at the bottom right side of the page for the Efest: "This is a rebranded LG ICR18650HE2 cell. Careful: max continuous discharge rate for this cell is 20A *NOT* 35A as advertised by Efest. According to LGs spec sheet 35A is only permissible for short periods not to exceed 75 seconds."

From the VTC5 page: "Careful: in a continuous discharge, this cell will get extremely hot - up to 80°C at 20A, up to 125°C at 40A."

If it were me, I would cycle the VTC5 five times, then run it in a mod and record how much juice I was able to use to a certain battery voltage. In the exact same setup, same mod, atty, coil, juice, I would then run the VTC5 and record that. If I had a significant difference I would email Triangle Vapes and see what they could do for me.

So you get a better understanding, I swap batteries at 3.7 volts. The vape quality is just too poor for me below that. This morning I switched it up and put a Sony VTC5 battery in just before leaving for work. It was at 3.7 volts by 1:30pm. I usually start the day off with the Efest 35 amp and it doesn't normally reach 3.7 volts until 5 or 5:30pm. The VTC5s are behaving like VTC4s for me. The Efest 35 amp is rocking.

How many charge cycles on the VTC5 and is everything else I mentioned in my last post the same?
