Not a scripture, just a short 2 or 4 line dinner prayer. Something about the food on our plate....something like that I think. I think it may rhyme. Can't remember any of it!
My husband said what I was thinking of was actually on the tv show The Big Bang Theory, season 3, 1st episode. I gotta go back & watch it. I'll post it here when I get around to digging out the DVD.
(Sheldon's mother was making him say the prayer over lunch. Those 2 are hilarious together as he is agnostic & she is hard core Christian)
"Heavenly Father, we give you honor & praise as you bless this food we are about to consume...
make it nourishment for our bodies so that we may serve you all the days of our lives...
In Jesus' name we pray, Amen"
My husband squeezes my hand if I go 'on and on,' so I devised a simplistic prayer......'Heavenly Father, thank You for this feast! In Jesus' name, Amein!' It doesn't matter if I have a slice of bread or a cracker. God always gives feasts.
When we were little, my sister and I would sing: 'Thank You for the world so sweet, thank You for the food we eat, thank You for the birds that sing, thank You God for everything....Amen.'
Then it was: 'God is great, God is good, and we thank Him for our food, by His Hand we are fed, thank You for our daily bread. Amen.'

The funniest thing is that Daddy would count - 1, 2, 3, then Sherry and I would know when to begin to 'sing' our blessing for our food. The countdown stayed until we were both married and out of the house. On the count of 3, that was always the key for the blessing.
