While not about either vaping or smoking bans, this is how far the current ban culture will go if someone does not stop them.

A vote on a Honolulu City Council proposal that would bar people with offensive odors from public transit vehicles is being delayed.

The proposed ordinance would make it illegal to have "odors that unreasonably disturb others or interfere with their use of the transit system."

Yes it would seem the 'Ban it' mentality is spreading fast since they have had so much luck with getting support for banning smoking. There is a certain type of sad person that seems to love the little bit of power it makes them feel but hopefully those kind of people won't find it so easy to get very much support for stupid things like that. Some people just love the feeling of glory it gives them to have loads of supporters.

the ban it brigade is strangley enough about freedom.. the ban on smelly buggers from the buses is about freedom..

the freedom of others not to be offended by someone who they dont like the smell of..

sadly by the time all the "freedoms" from annoyance by others have been achieved there wont be any real freedom left.. none of us will be allowed to do bugger all.. he he

Does that ban include anyone wearing perfume or cologne? As someone with Fibromyalgia the smell of those often give me migraines. I'd much rather smell real body smells than have a horrible headache. Who gets to decide what's offensive? It's like when they had the Larry Flint (sp?) obscenity trials years ago, what's obscene to one person is not obscene to another. How can you litigate something that is purely based on opinion.

Wow. Do these people have any idea what a slippery slope they are on? As others have said, who is going to decide what is offensive? I find the smell of certain perfumes offensive when everyone around me, it seems, finds the smell pleasant. So whose rights take precedence?

Also, take this example:

To me, one of the most offensive smells is a microwaved frozen fish entree. It stinks up the entire break room at work.

So say I complain loudly until I get what I want: a rule that says you can't microwave fish.

Then someone else finds the smell of BBQ chicken just as offensive. So those meals have to be banned as well. And on it goes.

Pretty soon, no one will be able to bring in any kind of frozen lunch.

I remember getting into a train compartment filled with Indian people and I quite literally found it very hard to breath with the overwhelming smell of whatever perfumes it was they were wearing at the time and whilst I am very glad I don't come across many people who like to wear that much perfume, I wouldn't dream of saying it should be banned.

The non smelly people planet.
The anti-smokers planet
The everyone is welcome planet.
The christian planet
The catholic planet
The atheist Planet.
The muslim Planet.
The cat's as pet's only planet
The no pets allowed Planet.

and so on and on .......Please feel free to add your own planet to the list.

Um... been in an establishment where this DID happen. One woman complained to the owner about every food put into the microwave. There was a ban on popcorn, fish, most meats, etc.

She complained about persons perfumes... so then no perfumes. Then she complained about deodorants... so no deodorants with fragrance. She complained about smokers leaving the property to go have a smoke in their cars on their lunch break... so from that, we were all forced to not smoke between work hours on or off the property... and then... for some reason, they threw in a rule about alcohol not being used during office hours OR on your own time. It got to the point we were pretty concerned she was going to eradicate sharpie markers from the building. She was the worst offender of smells!

People just need to accept that the world isn't perfect and people are going to be offensive. Our choice in the matter when it comes to be offended... is to either be offended and sit quietly in our offendedness... or not get offended.

This is a slippery slope. But... usually the ones pointing the fingers are the ones who have the most to hide. :)

Working in retail, you get very familiar with the various odors that come off people. I've always said "These people can come in here and make me nearly vomit with their body odor, or make my nose, throat, and mouth burn with their perfume, but I can't smoke?"
It was always said in jest, but this illustrates a point that I made a long time ago about harping on NRTs having flavors and nitrosamines... pretty soon someone's going to decide that they need to be pulled too.

And THIS is the problem I forsee too... What happens if and when they eradicate all tobacco products? Then all that are left are NRT's. What stops them from saying, we don't need nicotine at all. Let's stop those as well.

Next thing you know... we now have nicotine prohibition. Once that happens, you can bet your bippy they will turn on caffeine since 85% or more of all American's will be hopelessly addicted to caffeine and THAT needs to be taken care of since that's the "newest" problem to solve for us.

Honestly, some of these groups need to focus on what they are pumping our cows full of to get them to produce more milk instead of what we are doing as individuals.

The phrase "life is tough, get a helmet" comes to mind. I keep trying to tell my kids that life is not fair, you won't always like everyone and what they think, but you have to be polite to everyone and treat everyone the way you want to be treated. I think a lot of these folks who think they can mandate other people's every behavior need to think about what it would be like to have folks do that to them. I don't like the smell of people's gas, but I'm not trying to ban broccoli :).

If we could ban people that can't mind their own business there wouldn't be very many people left.

I agree with this. Freedom is letting the stuckup *** holes who don't like putting up with a smell CHOOSE not to ride the bus. Taking away freedom is making a law about something so stupid. Freedom is letting someone use an unregulated product at their own risk or giving them the option too at least.
