How long does a cartomizer last for?

No idea because I have never run one dry. I do add juice whenever the vapor gets light or a bit dry. And it also depends on what carto. A time E8 carto or a Bllu carto probably not gonna last as long as a Boge carto for 510 and that won't last as long as a jumbo carto etc.
I use a boge LR carto, and easily, I mean very easily refill it, and depending on the juice, I can get 4 to 5 days out of them, and day 4 tastes just as good as day one. Other juices are 3 days. The key is to keep them moist. never let them dry out. I usually have 2 pvs going throughout the day, and I usually like to top them off 3/4 of the way thru the day, and then top them off before going to bed.
If you are not going to refill them then the only person who can answer your question is you. It's the size of your mouth, the size of your drags, the size of your cartos, the resistance of your cartos vs your battery voltage, and how well your ecig company prefills cartos that will determine how many puffs you can get out of one.
It really does depend on how often you are vaping off of it and the size of your drags. Sometimes I go trough four a day, and sometimes only two.
As for refilling, I'm using the Bloog Maxxfusion cartos and refilling them is super easy. The Bloog cartos are really great. Just buying juice is a lot cheaper than tossing prefilled cartos too...

Vape it down until either of the following apply: the vapor drops, you start to get a burnt taste, or no flavor. Then you're done with it. In length of time, everyone is different. I go through roughly 6-7 1ml carto's a day.
If you are not going to add some juice to the cartomizers while vaping, then you should keep a whole pack (5 pcs) in your pocket at all times; you never know when they quit and out of juice. Really, until you vape them for a while. Sometimes, you may vape for an hour stright and sometimes you may vape occasionally.
The first time I started vaping (KR808 Cartos) I used 5 cartos in 2 days. I bought the starter kit from a local cigar shop, and it came with only starter 2 cartos. They also had the 5-pc/pack cartos for $19.99+, so I bought one pack, thinking it should last for a while. Two days later, I was out of the 7 cartos (5+2.) I drove back to the place and I bought another pack; when I realized I should go back to analogs; they were much cheaper.
Then, I started buying cartos online for less than half the price, until I had hundreds of empty cartos in a box. I did not want to throw them. I learned later that I could have extended the life of a cartomizer with a small juice bottle in my pocket. Every couple of hours, drip a couple of drops and the cartomizer could last you at least two days before the taste starts to change.

When they start tasting burnt toss them. Can't tell how many hits you'll get. You be throwing money away.
Either you barely touched it or you refilled. Those carts go a long way but, not that far.
