How long to steep?

Some juices are good right out of the package. I tend to steep my juices a minimum of 2 weeks before using them. I've had an experience with a tobacco flavor that wasn't good at all, after steeping it for a good 6 weeks, it's now one of my favorite flavors. I also find that chocolate flavors taste better after 2 weeks of steeping.

When you get your eliquid, shake the bottle and smell it. If it smells good to you, put some in your carto or tank and taste it. If it tastes and smells good to you, vape it. If it does not smell or taste "quite right" to you, steep it. Shake the bottle and check it every few days or so until it smells and tastes right to you.

Don't forget to shake the bottle well before filling or topping off your tank or carto.

As Monster said, some juices are good right out of the mailbox--usually they also improve with time. I know there are people who vape Mt. Baker right out of the mailbox. So, try it, and if you aren't liking the taste, then let it sit. I almost always try my juices the day they come if they are new flavors because I am not all that patient! Once you get a few extra bottles, you will find it easier to let the new ones sit for a bit.

I got some juice from Bionic Vapor on Friday and started vaping it yesterday...it was just fine. Might get better, good to go as is. So, give the juice a try and then decide if you need to wait.

It depends on the flavor.

If it's just a straight, pure menthol then no steeping time is required at all. It's a single flavor that isn't going to change with time. Just shake it well and it's ready to use.

The Irish Crème is a bit more tricky and largely depends on your personal taste. Personally I try to let complex flavors steep for at least 2 weeks before using them.

+1 on glow's advice. You have to taste it first so you can know if steeping is actually doing anything. It usually does help with cream or bakery flavors. Give it a try. If it's good, vape some of it, and stash the rest and try it in a week to see if it improves any. I usually shake 'em every day, and keep in a cool dark place. Eventually, you will know which juices you have to steep, and for approximately how long.

First off, Hello :) I too am fairly new to the vape world, and frankly, I love it!! Went from 2 packs a day 20 year habit to vaping entirely in 3 days, even I was amazed...

I am VERY new to the DIY ejuice process and am a little confused about steeping.. I have read where some people leave the bottles open while steeping ( This kinda freaks me out from a cross contamination stand point) and i've read where people just put the bottles in a cool dark place, shaking and testing from time to time.. Is there a preferred process to steeping? Is there a right vs. wrong way? Should it be steeped in glass vs. plastic???

This may have been better in it's own thread, and if so, I will gladly do so..

Thanks, A

For my $ worth I think you should be able to vape it straight away, as others have said certain ones, ie menthol etc will be good to go straight away and others will improve with age, re cross contamination I think that when a liquid is vaped at around 600deg any nasty bugs will be sent to another world, try looking at your food under a microscope, you would never eat anything else again :)

Ok, maybe cross contamination was a bit strong, but if the bottles are confined in a small area, together, open, wouldn't flavors, fragrances, etc.. get into each other? Maybe not to a great extent, but enough to taste it in the vape?..
