For me, taking a vape within a couple hours of waking up is harsh. Do any of you experience this and if so, how long do you usually wait?

It is harsh to me also but I still vape as soon as I wake up. After a couple of toots the harshness dissipates to me. Just had a thought while writing this, I'm going to try taking a toot on my zero nic dripper and see if that is harsh. I think it's the nic that is harsh. I will repost in here when I do to let you know.
About 1 minute or less... or however long it takes me to walk to next room and grab my Ego/Davide!
It's harsh for me also, especially ever since I've got a DRA (rebuildable dripping atomizer) and started building my own coils.

Same as I used to have my first cigarette - right after my first sip of coffee, which is about 10 or 15 minutes after I wake up.
It might be harsh(er) depending on your nic level and delivery device. I use 24 mg for the morning vapes but--- in my esmart clearo I can feel that harsh hit for the first couple puffs. In a carto, or one my innokin tiny clearos? Nadda - smooth as a 0 nic.

I have my PV on my nightstand. It's usually the first thing I reach for when I get up. 
Unless I break myself in, I can't seem to get that same vape right before bed. Went through all sorts of menthol mixes. Hmm maybe a coffee or cappuccino to get things movin, never hurts to try

I wake up goto the office hit fire on the laptop and at the same time grab my mod. Then walk over to the kurig and pop a pod in. This is working from home, if I have appointments skip firing PC and look at crack berry.
First thing I do when I wake up, take a few puffs and get coffee going. I was like that with analogs too.
usually before my eyes are fully open and alarm has been turned off. its what sits between me and the alarm! Im surprised I don't wake up with vapor coming out my month with the amount I vape before bed.
