Trying to get my new kayfun lite clone up and running. Gave it a good wash, but not a full scrubbing.

Wrapped a coil on a 5/64 bit, 28 gauge kanthal, 7-8 wrap. Checks out to 1.2 ohms.

i tried 3 strands of peaches and cream yarn, but that was that awful loose in the coil. Didn't look right.

the full 4 strands that the yard comes as just fills the coil. However, I can't seem to get a good vape. The first few toots are amazing, but that's still pre soaked from building. After a couple, I get a very harsh TH, nasty flavor, and very low vapor. Syringe out the tank, the wick doesn't look particularly scorched, but there is a tiny bit of scorching.

is 4 strands enough for a 5/64? I've tried tightening up the airflow, to little avail (even with a fresh wick). If I wait a few minutes between toots, the first hit tastes ok, but the vapor and th are still low (airflow pretty restricted). If I open up airflow a weeny bit, the nasty taste comes back.

I use 3 strands of peaches and cream in mine with a 5/64th" 29 gauge 1.7 ohm coil.

The cotton yarn will swell a bit once you apply juice to it.

4 strands in mine performed as you mentioned, initially awesome, but then diminishing, charred results.

My next build I will try a size larger coil so I can just use all 4 strands.

What "build" are you using for the KF-alike? How much cotton are you leaving in the chamber/juice feed area?
I'm finding cotton to be unforgiving when allowed to physically block the juice channels.

have fun

ETA: "Ummmmm... Isn't 1/16 smaller than 5/64? Wouldn't then, the sixteenth stand for less yarn, not more?"
Yes, 4/64 is less than 5/64.

Yeah, I wasn't totally awake when I typed that, plus dyslexia I guess, sorry.

My next size up in the drill index is 3/32"

I'm hesitant to tear this build down just to try it though.

Thanks for the help guys! I completely disassembled and re cleaned last night, being sure to really clean and rinse as thoroughly and hot as I could.

I tried 3 strands this morning, and made sure to just lay them across the channels real light. Wicking and tasting great now!

Also - does anyone else have their coil (8/9 wrap now, measures an even 1.0 ohm) keep cooking after they let off the button? My coil keeps simmering for almost a full second after I let off the fire button. This is with a freshly charged battery on a nemesis clone, so that's cooking along at 17+ watts.

This will always be effected by power output and length of Vape with wicking capability.
The longer you Draw at a higher power, the hotter the coil can become.
Liquid plays a role in both Heat up time and cool down time.
