I don't think you need one personally except for looks. I am using the Sigelei 100 watt and it looks nice while sitting on top of it. Also, when using the rtas and rdas, it would depend the build of your coil for what batteries you would need. Make sure you check out ohms law and check out Batitude's blog (18) Baditude's Blogs | E-Cigarette Forum for deeper understanding for battery safety.

Cowtown, USA. Where the West begins.
My car rig at the moment is a Fogger V6 dual coiled at .6 ohms. I am running it at 17 watts, and it vapes fine indeed. It's sitting on an SX Mini, and that will make 60 or 65 watts in regulated mode or 85 in unregulated. A box is very nice but not a requirement.

I want to start using RTa/RDAs. Do you have to buy those box mods in order to do this?
I run my Subtank Mini (RTA) with the rebuildable deck and .5 ohm build at about 30w on the 100w IPV4..

And I run my Dark Horse with a dual parallel 24g nichrome build (.15 ohms) at 80w on the 150w IPV3..

Both are good...this is the Mini ((RTA) at 30w

And this is the Dark Horse (RDA) at 80w on the 150w IPV3

So yes, I use dual batt high powered box mods for both styles of vaping.. One for flavor and the other for clouds...[emoji12]

Cool. Thanks for the info. Right now I am using coolfire 4 with atlantis v1. Want to get into rebuildables and don't know where to start.
When you say rebuildables I'm assuming you mean both RDA's and RTA's...that covers alot of different atties and builds..
I would suggest getting a mod that can do it all first...one that can fire down to .1 ohm and have at least 60w available...
SX Mini fits that bill but its sorta pricy at $200, and its only a single batt mod, meaning one would probly need to carry extra batts thru the day out and about..
The dual batt 100w IPV4 or the 100w Sig would be good for starters... Dual batt mods last about 2 days on one charge for me...
I suggest learning a little about ohms law and battery safety as you learn how to build your RDA and RTA's..
Figure out what your looking for in your vape..I mean like are you a mouth hitter (tootle puffer) or do you prefer deep lung hits and clouds...once this is established you might be able to shop for the right RDA/RTA with the right build that fits your personal vaping needs..(and wants, lol)
In any case good luck with it and keep us posted how it goes.

It depends on many factors. The resistance, wire gauge, type of build and airflow.

I have a Rose v2 running a 1.1 ohm single coil at 17.3W and a quad vertical in the Aromamizer that can run at 100W. They are both RTAs, but very different. I have many others somewhere in between.

You can build to run as low as 7W or in excess of 100W depending on the atty, build and personal preferences.

No.

The watts required depends entirely on the coil you put in.

I'm vaping at about 10 t0 15 watts on a 28 gauge 2+ ohm coil right now on a 3d rdta. (on a mech with a 4.8 volt vv kick module)

Hi vaper29, I think a good place to start would be a kanger subtank/subtank mini. It comes with a very easy to use rebuildable head so you can play around with building, and if you don't like it, you can always use the pre-built heads.

Your coolfire 4 should be good enough for trying out rebuilding. Along with smacksy's suggestion of reading up on ohm's law and battery safety, I'd recommend shooting for no less than 1 ohm to start (or no less than 0.5 ohm if you decide to use a dripper instead of a tank). This should give you a very good idea of what to expect from rebuildables, and it will allow you to get a very good vape at around 15w (or around 30w for the dripper).

Best of luck!

I think that a regulated mod would be the most beneficial for you. If there are any irregularities in the coil they could keep you from getting hurt. Another great thing about them is that you can adjust the power whether it is a rta or rda. Look at sigellis and ipvs. Alot of the time you can find them in bundles so it's a little easier on your pocket as well. Check out vapingcheap.com and brokevapers.com. Good luck.
