I'm curious how much gear I should have on hand? Atty's? Batt's? Carts?

Right now my wife & I are sharing a cignot no box kit. 2 batteries, 2 atty's, and 1/2 dozen or so carts. Carts are no biggie. Mainly, I'm curious about atty's. I seem to have a knack to ruin them. I've got 3 atty's that I'm hoping to bring back to life...maybe.

I'm looking at ordering some more stuff. An extra auto battery for my wife, and a manual battery for me (4 total), and around 5 atty's, maybe some more empty carts. And were thinking about a PCC. Thoughts?

PURCHASING YOUR FIRST E-CIG

Whatever model you choose, ensure that your initial order includes at least 2 atomizers, 2 batteries, 1 battery charger, and 10 cartridges (and/or 30 ml of e-liquid). [For a super-mini, make that at least 3 batteries.] Most “starter kits” include many of these. Supplement with replacement parts and additional cartridges and/or e-liquid as needed.

Recommended are 3 atomizers, 3 batteries, 2 chargers (especially for super-minis), and additional e-liquid. Or, if you just want to “test the water” at the least possible cost (knowing that you quickly will need to order more to continue vaping), just order the most basic starter kit (with one of each of the above, but 5 prefilled cartridges).

this info is off of the Illustrated Guide to E-Cigs located in the ECF Library

I agree with this very much except I believe a PCC is a necessity.

It's a Joye 510.

So why is a PCC a must have?

Why is a USB PT a must have?

I think that a PCC would be more useful for me than a USB PT. But I thought the PCC would charge 2 batteries at once, but after looking on myPVshop the ones they have only charge 1 battery (not sure if there are different models of PCC's)

I'm also kicking around the idea of trying out a different model of ecig. I like the 510, but I also have nothing to compare it too. Thoughts?

My progression was from a 510 to a KR808, which is a two piece system (cartomizer and battery). Life got SO much easier! The initial outlay seems higher but you can refill carts over and over.

Not to knock the 510 - it was a great vape to start off with. Some friends who vape still prefer it. And it does make more vapor. However, many have gravitated to the KR808 with good reason. Starter kits are not too expensive.

The PT allows you to vape for very long periods non-stop while on a computer. The 5V USB port recharges a Li-ion batt in the little box, which in turn powers the atty. Because the USB is always "topping off" the battery, you are essentially vaping endlessly off the computer. And even unplugged it will last on the 10440 battery much longer than reg batts or even mega batts.

The PCC charges one reg batt, four times total on one PCC charge (it has a batt in it to recharge the 510 batts). It will hold 3 carts or 2 carts and an extra atty...the three other holes are shallower than the batt hole.

I would stick with the 510 for a bit before getting another model. All ecigs have a learning curve. The 510 is an excellent PV, right off the bat. Tinker around with the carts a bit (cart mods), and it gets far better. Lots of batt mods you might be interested in down the road use the 510 atty because it is about the best one out there for performance.

Don't worry, having just one model will make you crazy enough for a while. Wait until you learn more about the other ones before you take that plunge.

If you are at or near a computer for large portions of your day, a pass-through is a must-have. You don't have to keep switching batteries. When you leave your house all your batteries will be fully charged. And batteries have a finite number of charges. Why use up 3 of them every day when you're sitting at home.

If you don't hang out near your computer, a pass-though is less helpful (although you can get an AC to USB Adapter if you want to plug a pass-through into any any wall outlet -- just make sure it's a strong enough one.)

If you are constantly on the go and regularly spend several hours in a row somewhere you can't charge a battery, a PCC is essential. It can carry one charged battery and will charge another so you won't get stuck somewhere with no power.

If you spend hours every day in your car, a car adapter would probably make the most sense.

You have to look at your life and buy what will make things easiest for you. (I have a pass-through for my 510, plan to buy one for my 801, don't need a PCC and don't own a car.)

Ahh...now I see. I thought the PT was just a USB charger, but running the ecig off a computer, that makes sense, and make a PT much more valuable to me.

I'm getting a couple of manual batteries (been using autos), so once I see which I like better, then I'll get a PT.

Thanks!

I think that even though you don't have to press a button on the auto batts, you may find that the cutoff time is too short. The manual batt allows as long a hit as you like.

I don't think you will find an auto PT, although you might. The vast majority of 510 PTs are manual. A couple out there do not use a batt, so the USB is powering the atty at 5V directly...you can tell this is the case if the pic of the PT has no batt box. This may put too big a load on the USB port, and while the 510 atty can technically handle 5V, there is a bigger risk of burning it out. Better to power off the 3.7V batt until you learn the ropes more.

I agree with Poeia, it is generally best to use an AC/USB converter from the mains, or else a powered external USB hub. A few 510 PTs have fried USP ports and/or motherboards, but this is a not a common problem. To be safe, powering it at least partially eternally is a good idea.

Actually, I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking of it for someone who doesn't hang out by his computer. But what you say makes sense.

Rocky Mountain Vapor got some automatic PTs by mistake and is selling them at a discount while supplies last.
