I never clean them. They are meant to be disposable. No juice goes in carto unless I like the juice and it is suitable for a carto. Then I continue to keep that carto damp with the same or compatible juice for a week or more, then then the performance is degraded. I toss used the carto is the emergency bag and if h*ll ever freezes over I will try to clean them. I don't mind spend $2-3 per week for a fresh carto. People seem to get mixed results with cleaning and drying. When I start a new carto I don't want any surprises.

However - some say those more expensive dual-coil ones are designed to be cleaned. And the clear tube kind can be cleaned up and even put back together if you have a lot of patience.

I actually wash mine out every 2-3 days if it is above 30 percent vg.(like 50/50) They just seemed to get clogged or not taste as good. I just take a clothes pin and hold them under hot water tap water out of the sink about 3 minutes whiles blowing them out, then dry 2 days. It works for me, and I get at least 3-4 uses out of them. Now my husband on the other hand will puff for 2-3 weeks on the same one.

Speaking of cartomizers...Madvapes has these single coil ones for $1.59 that work as well as the 510 dual coil ones. I am always on the look out for deals, since I am cheap, lol. I had found 510 dual coil 5 packs for 8.95 but I can't remember what the vendors name was. vapors club or e cigarette club. Shoot I can't think of it and I can't find it now.
