i buy new ones when i see ones i fancy with appealing specs. Current rotation has Samsungs, mnkes, and orbtronic 2900pds and some orb sx30s.

I have 10 or so AWs and Efests, but finding which are sagging after 6 months of sub-Ω abuse is more time than i am willing to spend, so i'll toss the lot. If you run a decent mech then never short sell yourself on cheap batteries and chargers, the difference between good and dismal is a few cents a day over its lifetime.

What happens to a battery over time is that its internal resistance increases and it is less able to hold voltage for any time. Time for the bin.

i have been exclusively using mech mods from last few months and started using my new 18650 along with that .... after about 6 months i am feeling that my batteries need charge more often then it did when new or up until last month..... so was wondering how long you guys use battery before feeling the need to replace it ??

I have two VERY RELIABLE batteries..but I am sure at some time they will give out...I want to have two more ready when that happens

A good IMR has an average cycle life of 500 cycles, provided that they are properly used and cared for, ie: don't discharge below 3.5v, recharge asap, store at the proper voltage (3.7-3.9v) when not in use. Do not store your batteries at full charge (4.2v) for an extending period of time.

You can extend the cycle life of IMR batteries by not charging them to 4.2v, taking them to 3.9v instead, which can increase cycle life to about 1000 cycles.

I have not had to "replace" a battery because I take good care of them, and rotate my use of them, as opposed to using one pair to death. I also label/date my batteries to keep track of how long they have been in use.
