How old is too old for e-juices?

I started vaping again around 5 months ago and am still going strong. I had previously vaped for a couple months in the summer/fall of 2012, back then it just wasn't enough for me to quit smoking completely, i felt like the hardware, accessibility, and information was not their and that became very frustrating for me. Anyway i used to get all of my juice from MLV and i had bought a TON of different flavors like 30 all at one time . I just couldn't get a satisfying smoke to kick the addiction. So when i decided to go back to smoking i packed all of my hardware and juices away hoping that i would come back to it someday. Fast forward to earlier this year when i did come back to vaping. I bought an MVP 2, aspire nautilus tank, some new juices and everything was amazing. After vaping for a while i remembered that i had all these juices sealed packed away in my basement, so i pulled them out and started to try them to see what the were like after all this time steeping. Some of them were REALLY good, ( RY4 especially) some had no flavor left at all and some just were too dark and i didn't want to try it. I thought nothing of it, had no side effects or any sick feelings, none of that. I was then down at my local B&M and i start telling the owner what happened when i tried these juices after sitting for like 2 years. He FREAKED out started telling my i was crazy and that you can DIE from smoking juice that old and that i should throw it all away, and throw away all my atomizers i used them in etc. etc. etc.... To be honest it didn't freak me out or anything, i felt fine, i was alive anyway right?. So my question is, was this a gross exaggeration or is this an actual thing that e liquid turns deadly poison after sitting for more than a year. Whats your thoughts?

Well, I might not be the best source of information on this, but it sounds like one hell of an exaggeration to me. I haven't been vaping for 2 years yet, but I really believe that I would have heard or read some type of warning if there was any truth to what that guy was saying. The guy at my local B&M store only says that the flavor usually gets better over long periods of time.

I'm in the same boat as you, if my old juices turn very dark, I toss them. Otherwise I'll dig them up and vape them if I feel like it!

Maybe the guy just wanted you to spend a bunch of money buying new juice and atomizers from his store? Lol that would be kinda depressing though, I hope he's not that greedy...

I totally agree with you guys about him trying to sell me more juice (he was mixing and selling his own). I was just wondering if there was any validity at all to a statement like that. It did make me wonder though because now a lot of juice manufactures are putting expiry dates on bottles but maybe that's a way to make sure they are covering all angles just in case (god forbid) something does happen. Im sure Health Canada and the FDA would be all over someone dropping dead from vaping old juice... and im pretty sure that's the last thing any of us need.

It won't hurt you - it just might taste like crap. (As you found out for a couple few.) Two years is generally accepted as how long a liquid will still taste like anything you would still want to vape. Nictoine in there oxidizes with age, and that impacts the flavors in the process.

The exception here is liquids made with organic flavorings. That's a case by case basis as to what the supplier will state. Some will say they are no good after a month. To the other extreme - about six months tops.

I just am not one that can toss money in a garbage can. If it doesn't look like the 60's style lava lamps with something growing and moving. . . I'm gonna use it. (eventually)

Now there is a perfect idea to do with all the old and nasty juices... make a pretty lava lamp... but it probably wouldn't look very pretty, it would probably end up looking like a truck stop toilet bowl.

Most juice makers will say 1 to 1.5years from the date of mixing, in an unopened bottle kept in a cool dark place. There are people who have had juice 3 years and it been fine for them.

Honestly I think a lot of it has to do with how well sealed it is and what flavors. I suspect some flavoring agents will break down quicker than others.

As to the nic in the juice, that will slowly turn any e-juice darker as it oxidizes. Which is going to happen to any juice unless kept in a total vacuum.

He over reacted, sure he did, and maybe paritally so he could sell you more juice, but most vendors get their instructions on how long juice is good for from the makers.. and most makers will tell you.. 1 to 1.5yrs. Some ( I know Halo does ) even puts an expiration date on it.

Biggest thing to worry about with old juice is bacteria getting into the liquid but this is prodomently seen in naturally flavoured juice I'm also pretty suree that nicotine deteriorates after a while of being stored incorrectly but usually has to be in a open container in direct sunlight if I remember correctly
