I've never smoked. I've been vaping moderately for a couple of months now with no nicotine.

1) Based on all the research that has been done, is vaping safe?

2) What toxic chemicals are in American made e liquids and what does the FDA have to say about them?

3) How much would I have to vape for the toxins to cause a considerable effect on my body?

4) What are the most safe yet most flavorful e liquids?

1) Safer than cigarettes
2) What have you read to date?
3) I don't believe there are any specific test that have been done by the FDA, if anyone, to say anything about how much "toxins", if any, cause any effect on the body.
4) You can always ask the vendor where they get their supplies and if they are USP grade, ask to look at them if need be. Flavor is subjective.

First question, why vape if you don't or haven't smoked? Curiosity got me. Your answers below:

1.) Vaping has been proven to be a safer alternative to smoking for you and others via "secondhand vapor inhalation" but like everything in life, nothing is SAFE.
2.) Rarely are there "toxic" chemicals found in any e-liquid, Diacetyl would be the only one anyone will mention, US based eliq makers generally closely monitor what goes into their mixtures. FDA is biased by Big Pharma money so nobody in the ECig community listens to them.
3.) In the event trace amounts of Diacetyl get into an eliquid mixture... you'd have to vape a LOT in a short period of time or a little over a LONG period of time to feel any effects. What are they? Depends on the person really. (Check out this link from a flavor manufacturer for details on how Diacetyl gets into eliqs.)
4.) The large majority of eliqs are safe, flavor is individual based because of varying taste buds.

The major unknown is reckoned to be the flavours. Cinnamaldehyde and diketones being the examples that spring to mind.

Research what flavours you're using, and what the associated risks are, and decide whether it's worth it to you.

Personally, I wouldn't now if I wasn't an addict. Maybe in ten years, when more studies have been done, the picture will be clearer, and the juice better regulated.

1: No significant volume of researh.
Is vaping safe - that would depend on what you vape.
Standard formula: 50/50 VG/PG. Food grade stuff. After that anything goes.
2: No comment. FDA is a four letter word around here, for good reason.
3: What toxins? If you don't put toxins in your eliquid the main source of toxins is going to be your ecig itself; that is why plastic, rubber, silicone, glue, wick are important.
4: dunno.

I chose to start vaping because when I entered college, everyone smoked. Vaping was an alternative to smoking. It wasn't necessarily peer pressure, I just wanted to try something new and adult-like. Quite honestly, I've hated it. The Halo Triton system is crap and I can't find any good flavors. The one good flavor that I have ever vaped was on my friends ego-twist, "smarty pants" from altsmoke.

1- There has been some studies, for example, some studies on mice inhaling propylene glycol (an ingredient in mouse eliquid) showed no measurable differences from the control group:
The safety of propylene glycol (PG) when inhaled through an electronic cigarette. Studies on the effect of the inhalation of propylene glycol through a personal vaporizer.
2- Most eliquids contain no toxins in their unvaped form, not counting nicotine which you are not asking about
Some studies have been done and the vapor produced here is some info on that
There have been some studies on ecigs, I think the only other concern besides nicotine may be formaldehyde, but, it's a very small concern.
Here is a graph from a study where 3 ecig cartridges were vaped in a closed off space:

On thing to note, as was noted in the study, humans naturally exhale formaldehyde, so some, or most of that was not from the ecig.
Unfortunately, mainstream media did not note that in news reports, instead they claimed ecigs have 20% of that of regular cigarettes. They obviously included the 10ppb that was already in the room before the test began, and they didn't divide the increase per cartridge vaped. If they had, the number would have been 3% based on that graph, and on top of that, as stated in the study, regular exhalation would have caused some or most of that increase. The news reports lumped in acetaldehyde with formaldehyde in the 20% statistics, even though studies showed the levels of acetaldehyde were about 1/425th of the amount in cigarettes, and all of that may have been also been from natural acetaldehyde exhalation. Acetaldehyde is formed when sugars reach a burning temperature, which shouldn't happen in a regular vape. What also wasn't noted, is that the liver breaks down alcohol into acetaldehyde, it is actually the cause of hang overs, so one beer produces waaaaay more that even a regular cigarette.

If the levels of formaldehyde concerns you, please note, regular indoor air contains up to 80ppb, while without regular formaldehyde exhalation factored in, the e cigarette produced about 3 or 4ppb

Also, the tar in cigarettes is by far the most harmful part of cigarette smoke, which there is none of in ecigs. Factoring that into the rest, that would put ecigs at >1% as dangerous as regular cigarettes. That's a number I can live with.

edit: Also many food contains formaldehyde, a pear has 38.7 – 60mg/k that makes the part per billion in an ecig seem like literally nothing
Artificial sweeteners also break down into formaldehyde, at much higher levels than any ecig could produce even over a long period of time, so one diet soda leads to far more exposure.
4- I recomend US made eliquid, I wouldn't trust chinese as they use a variety of ingridients. If your just vaping PG/VG, there shouldn't be much to worry about.
