Hi. Ok so I know what I'm doing and this is fine but i rarely use drippers and this is two post dripper I'm using and so it's a little trickier.
Now, I know you wouldn't want the coil legs from one touching the other coil but they do touch through the post anyway. So where is the point of contact no longer of consequence? How short must they be cut.

Ignore this rubbish build. High guage, too close, shouldn't have tweezed them etc...

The legs can touch the posts, just not the deck or sides.

I leave longer legs on my coils than most from what I've read. I bend the end of the leg upward against the post. This allows me to unbend the legs and remove the coil, clean it and put it back on. I've been building like this for about 3 years and haven't had any trouble. The single coil I'm using right now is one of the first I built. It has been on two different decks.

When you share the contacts for dual coils, you can position one coil and cut the leads for the distance you need to either get closer to the air control or over bottom air valves. Once done, remove the coil and using it as your guide you can cut the other leads to match. This will give you equal distance which will make the coils heat evenly AND not have to cut them once installed which is a nightmare. Next, go get a velocity style deck and smile more.

Do you have a pic to share?

Resistance is measured by the length of the wire, not loops. So measure resistance with a meter before you cut.
Not cutting, touching opposing post should not cause a short.
Will cause problems with uneven ramping, hot spots mabey.
I always cut flush with a Hako wire cutter..

keep your coils in whatever you used to wrap them, bend them so that the legs are equal and centered, put in post and pull and arrange them until they are as far and away from any chance to touch anything.

You can also put a screwdriver under the leg to bend it upwards a bit.

Note that all recommendations seriously depends on the deck.

It isn't really possible to cut the legs until after you tighten down the set screws in the posts and I always cut the flush with flush cut pliers.

You should get a postless deck, they can be quite challenging, as you have to cut them even (both legs for both coils in a dual deck), long enough but not too long for them to drop in... a bit of a pain, but so worth it to be able to put is crazy huge 4mm coils in a 22mm deck.

There's a bit of satisfaction when you get it done right on the first try and when you glow them and see that they came out perfectly balanced...

Ok, I was curious about that! Thank you

I found a picture. I was just learning, so the wire is crooked, but you can see how the leg is bent up. This is on a RM2 bottom-feeder atty, which is why there is no well. I was testing the resistance on a 'Vari before I used it on my Reo. Wow! Almost 3 years to the day.

I don't worry about that - touching the other coil IN the post hole...
I'm vaping this right now - it's a nice (but noisy - whooooooosh) RDA.
:D

I bend mine up as close to the post as possible and snip with flush cut pliers :)
