I've found that the cart filling does a better job of holding the juice in than it seems. When storing my e-cig, I just disconnect the battery and store the cart atomizer-side down. This keeps the atomizer moist, but also won't leak. I've found that if you keep the cart cart-side down the atomizer will drain into the space between the bridge and the cart and will decrease performance.

i'm also curious about this, so far I have been leaving the cartridge in, but disconnecting the battery and atomizer in order to prevent the self cleaning cycle from happening
the self cleaning cycle wont just happen automatically...it'll happen directly after a puff...its triggered by you puffing on it a certain amount of times...it wont self clean spontaneously...so you dont need to disconnect anything to avoid it...

as for removing cartridges...well,i only remove them to drip more liquid on them, and i dont ever do the upside down draining thing anymore...i used to,but stopped months ago...it hasnt made the slightest bit of difference to my atomisers performance or life expectancy...in my opinion, doing that is a waste of eliquid and time...if it gets blocked occasionally, then blow it out as required...much less hassle...
