It does have a little screen looking thing that goes over the cotton part but the guy said I have to drip onto the cotton part to prime it before I put juice in the actual tank so maybe I didn't drip enough. Now that I think about it the popping went away a whole lot faster with the first coil and the guy in the store did it for me the first time so maybe that's my problem. The other tanks I've had didn't require priming so I probably did it wrong.

The poping is a good thing. The spitting not so good.

I'd suggest you may have put too many drops on your coil and / or taken too many primer puffs, and gotten the set up close to flooding.

It's a fine balance.

Literally one or two tiny drops in the coil head is enough to prime a pre-manufactured coil, before installing it into the tank.

Try opening up your airflow to maximum and raising you power by a couple of watts for three or four draws, to dry out the coil a little. Then go back to your prefered airflow and power setting.

"Attypops" are nothing to worry about... I actually like them. They tell me the thing is working right, lol! If the spitting is a problem (even with the mesh protector installed), you can always look into a longer drip tip, or maybe heat insulator... just some kind of adapter to increase the distance between your lips and the coil.
