A lot of people feel the need to throw away all cigarettes to avoid temptation. I, personally, feel trapped into not smoking if it's not by choice. I needed to know that I could smoke if I chose to... I felt a lot less claustrophobic, so to speak.
I agree. I need to know I "can" have a cig if I chose to. As time went on cigs started tasting worse and worse. Can't believe I smoked all those years.

I had a pack and a half of smokes left when my first PV arrived. I smoked them while getting into vaping. When I finished them, I said that's it and I was done. That was 3 months ago. Sure, I've had cravings, but not very bad and not very long. I've always had a lot of vape supplies (made sure of that, which I think is a holdover from being a smoker and knowing how not to run out of product) and so was able to satisfy any urges.
Don't need smokes, I'm not a smoker.

For the first two weeks I was paranoid about equipment failure (or stupid failure of user to charge the other battery) so I carried the cigs and lighter in the wrong pocket (not the one I had a habit of reaching for). After 2 weeks and ordering spares for everything and a charger for work, I moved the cigarettes and lighter to a zip lock bag in the trunk of my car - close enough to allay fears, far enough to insure I wouldn't accidentally light one.

I've always had a bit of the addictive personality my whole life, but what is really strange is I have never looked back after my first day with e-cigs. Well over a month now and I have not once desired a cigarette. 21 years of smoking analogs and 7 failed attempts to quit, and now I am smoke free, I use my e-cig less and less each day, probably down to half the intake of when I smoked real ones. I don't know if I'll ever "stop" vaping because I enjoy it, but it does not own me anymore...

I find that it helps mentally to keep a cigarette right next to your E, and choose to smoke the E instead. It helps very well to saying no to cigs in public bacuase you feel you made the choice
I get some around as sort of an "Incase of emergency break glass" escape clause.

You'll probably find the key turning point is the right hardware/juice combination, so that you find you aren't vaping as means to not smoke, but that you actually prefer it.

Make the choice, a preference, and the need for the choice goes away ;).

Best,

I agree. My roommate smokes, and I will occasionally snag one of his nails to keep at my desk. Knowing that I can smoke and am choosing NOT to smoke makes me feel that much more in control of my habit. Plus, when I do break down and have a puff of analog, I find it totally destroys the taste of my ejuice (Pink Spot, in the house!). Yet ANOTHER reason to never wander back to analogs.

I bought my first e cig in September. I had no intention of quitting smoking. I smoked more than 2 packs a day for 50 years and had tried and failed to quit countless times. I bought the ecigs to use in my new car which I wanted to keep clean and odor free. And because I was planning a mini vacation with nonsmoking family. After a couple of days with the e cigs I realized that I was smoking less and less. After about 2 weeks I put one pack of cigarettes in my freezer and the other in the back seat of my car. They are handy if needed. About a month ago I did light one. It was nasty! After 2 drags I put it out.

I love my e-cigs! I have even managed to cut the nicotine down to 12 and 6 mg! Eventually, I will get to zero. :p
