How to tell what kind of battery I have

Hey there ECF members! I might be a having a "not the sharpest tool in the shed" moment  but I've been searching all over the forums and the internet in general, and I can't find the answer I'm looking for.

My question is this:

How do I tell if my battery is protected or unprotected WITHOUT taking off the shrink wrap?

I have two different batteries, and I can't remember what I was told about them when I bought them at my local vendor.

(1) Green, Li-ion MH12210 NCR18650B. There is a white circle on the positive end
(2) Pink, Samsung SDI ICR18650-26F 2012. There is also a white circle on the positive end

I feel like I'm being very dull and probably am overlooking the answer.. I'm leaning toward thinking that they are both unprotected (even though there's the white on the tops) because neither have that groove or indentation on the bottom/negative side which I'm pretty sure I read means there is no PCB there.

I want to know if these are unprotected because if they're not, I want to immediately purchase a 2cent fuse/vapesafe.

Thanks!
