I am a GUY from L.A. not girl. lol
I would keep a couple spares on hand, I lost 4 in a row once from mysteriously non-existant reasons. There is no way to know for sure when an atty might fail completely, there are far too many variables. Right now, you can get 40% off at myfreedomsmokes.com w/ the code "smoke". There are a couple other codes for liquid also, you should check out that suppliers forum for more info.

Mine either quit all together or begin losing vapor production. The loss of vapor production is enough for me to either try and clean it or just replace with a new one. If your atomizer isn't performing normally then I would say it's time to replace it.

That is my experience also. Most often it is the loss of vapor production.
