I would probably stick with wattage mode, since it's what you know and more easily adjustable in smaller increments, (I think). Really, what is going to matter is the resistance of your (premade or self made coil) and what your batteries can handle. You can increase your wattage slowly and prime your new type of coil just the way you would any drop in coil, and that should give you a sense for what works well. The lower the resistance the higher the wattage needs (usually) although it also depends on what TYPE of coil you are using, exotic coils tend to have more mass than single round builds so that may factor into things. Also, if you are using dual coils, the resistance will be HALVED, so you need to account for that if you are doing it.

If they're premades, well, the resistance should be fairly close to what is stated on the package although there can be slight differences.

Steam-engine.org is a great place for calculating out resistance with coil diameter, metal type and host of other things. UNLESS you are using TC mode you should limit yourself to kanthal, nichrome (I believe) and stainless steel. Stainless is nice as you can use in either wattage and TC.

To get a sense of what your batteries can and cannot handle, go here. There's tons of reading, you don't have to do it all at once, but really you want to make sure that your batteries can handle what you throw at them.

Best of luck

Anna
