I took a trip from London to Dublin on June 30 on RyanAir, and among the many things they were trying to sell us (to make up for the really cheap airfare) were a "pack" of e-cigs. I wanted one (interesting souvenir, I thought), but they would only take cash, and I didn't have any Euros on me. I hoped they would do the same on the way back, so made sure I had the 6 Euros, but they didn't offer it then.

Ok.... well, I appreciate that info, but it does nothing to answer my question. Does anyone know what the deal is in Ireland? It's my best shot if there's a ban in the U.S.. Seriously, someone's gotta know what the climate is there. Sure would do a lot to ease my fears if I knew that PV's were going to stay legal in Ireland or even the UK.

Applejack, the deal with the UK and Ireland is that e-smoking has largely been ignored by the authorities so far.

it hasnt really registered with the general public or governments over here yet.the powers that be seem to have more pressing issues to deal with.

so in my opinion,it'll be some time before anything is banned here...i hope thats the case anyway.:)

They're not illegal here but they're not widely known about either. If ASH or anyone else wanted them banned, they'd only have to whisper in someone's ear. Ireland loves taxing smokers and we have many. About 80% of the sale price on a pack of smokes is tax...Would the .gov want anyone else cutting in on that action when already they're seeing large amounts of smokers swarm across the border to feed their habit (and do the rest of their shopping while they're at it)..the recession's biting hard and it's doubtful, but no-one can really tell if they'll be allowed to remain legal.

What's stopping you from ordering directly from China?

Ha, I was just talking with some friend about whether they thought Ryanair would jump on the band wagon. They said it was doubtful as other passangers wouldn't stand for it and assume they were cigarettes. I thought it would be a perfect marriage. Can you remember the brand? at €6 for a kit?? I haven't seen wholesale prices that low.

Nothing's stopping me from ordering from China... yet. I can still order from distributors in the US even, but if there's a ban they're going to be stopping and checking packages that are coming in from known distributors/manufacturers in China. If it were legal in Ireland, I could have someone buy them there and send them to me as it would be highly unlikely that customs would stop a small, personal shipment sent from a private address there. What's ASH? Like the FDA, or some other gov't health organization?

ASH are a marketing arm of the pharmaceutical industry cunningly disguised as a global organisation committed to stamping out smoking. The pharmaceutical industry is massive in Ireland. Nine out of the world's top ten leading pharmaceutical companies are located here with exports exceeding €23 Billion annually. I doubt the government would hesitate very much to do what ever they requested however it was requested.

I doubt you'd run into much trouble importing small orders from China, Too many packages fly in from there everyday to check them all. Return addresses are usually scrawled and illegible. I'd say its rare they are checked against a database. Big noticeable orders certainly, small brown envelopes, not so much. It would be extremely bad luck if they happened to pick up on yours.
