This is just a random idea that popped into my head tonight. So, a carto is basically a coil, or a couple of coils wrapped in a cotton wick and surrounded by polyfill, right? One of the major complaints about cartos is that if you burn that wick, the carto is ruined. So my thought is, why is the wick made out of something that will burn? if you wrapped the coil(s) in a porous glass fiber fabric, or a close fitting porous ceramic tube, and then surrounded that with a fill material of some kind, wouldn't they last until the coils gave up the ghost? I'd think you could clean something like that and use it over and over again. What if you made it all modular? A rebuildable vertical atty with a close fitting porous ceramic tube wrapped in stainless steel that slipped over it and screwed into place.

I've been pondering this idea tonight, and thought I'd post it and see if I'm crazy or not.

Or even completely replacing the pollyfill with some super fine stainless steel mesh rolled tightly around the coil many times - kind of like a roll of toilet paper - so that it fills the volume inside the carto barrel. Wonder if that would hold the liquid well, or if it would be a leaky mess? Apparently, this mesh works well as a wick in the expensive Genesis atty... why not employ it in a carto design? Just wondering...

If you figure out a way to do it that doesn't leak like some of the clearomizers, let me know - I'll be your first customer!

I seem to recall a thread or youtube that mentioned using an emptied Lipton pyramid tea bag to replace the polyfill - I've been meaning to try it... Putting a box if tea bags on my shopping list now!

That was a popular mod for cartidges (not cartos), when 510 attys and cartridges were pretty much all that was available. I've never seen it used in a carto, but it seems like a good idea. The PTB (Pyramid Tea Bag) mod was the first I ever tried. :)

I'll let you know if/how it works out!
