I am getting a burnt taste from my freshly-wicked, WELL-primed atomizer. What could it be?

Setup:
iJOY Triangle rda
Cartel Revenant Blaq
2x Sony VTC6

2 quad coils reading out to 0.21-23 Ω and vaped at 60-99 watts
Organic Japanese cotton pads cut to size and used to wick
Exiled Vapes Berried Marzberry

Problem:
On my freshly wicked atomizer with a well-primed wick, I am getting a burnt taste. I thought it was just my old wicks getting nasty since I had switched from one eliquid to another without rewicking. The burnt taste has stayed with the rewick. What gives?

Hey there and Welcome to ECF!!

I wanted to ask when you changed the cotton, did you clean any gunk or build up off of your coils? And was the any of the cotton burned itself?

You should be able to switch between fluids without having to rewick. Sometimes I've gotten a burnt taste with certain fluids. Once I cleaned up and rewicked it did take a little time to get past the burnt taste. That doesn't happen often. Personally, I like to start new wicks out at a lower wattage or temp (say 30 watts) and work up to my regular wattage (around 80 watts). I only spend around 10 minutes doing that I just like to make sure my wicks are good and juicy. When I first started out I did burn my cotton a few times from not having the cotton wicked *in* the coil well enough...So it burned apart. Lol.

This is just my experience, I hope I can help you some. I'm not exactly up on all the correct terminology as others in this forum, but I hope I explain myself enough that you understand.

Hi and welcome. +1, try taking it apart, cleaning it thoroughly, rewicking, and then starting out in the 30-40 watt range, raising it gradually into your preferred zone. There are some juices out there that just don't take kindly to high watts, I suspect this is your problem.

Could be gunk trapped under or inside the coil, I guess? I dry burn (pulsing) after I wash my coils, and then swab the interior and underneath, with a q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol, as I continue to pulse. I think my coils get cleaner that way than just dry burning them (and I don't want to dry burn SS coils, anyway....)

Good luck, a thorough wash may be in order, including the O-rings, although it's certainly possible that your new juice isn't playing well with your tank....

I take the deck and run it under water, then dry burn, repeat then q tip or the end of the cotton you use as the "needle" and cut off anyways. I know alot of people just dry burn but if they seen all the gunk we've seen they would start cleaning I'm sure.... toothbrush or one of those pipe cleaner things that look like mini toilet bowl cleaners work great for getting the area q tips can't.
