I know it is very Canadian to roll over and play dead when the government says BOO. I know its very Canadian to be polite, passive, and totally non responsive. I am SICK OF IT. Stand up for what you believe in already.
Well said and I totally agree. I'm actually ashamed of us sometimes in that we really do just roll over and 'yawn' or in this case 'shrug' when we really ought to be standing up even stronger than ever.
One thing I am becoming increasingly defiant is NOT allowing the government to simply replace Cigarette money to vaping money.
And they WILL do that. Already planned. Simply having massive taxes on vaping. This will ultimately lead to the death and illness of millions and all to save 'non-smokers' from having to be infuriated when they have to make up the difference after smoking disappears.
Anyways, YES - you are right and we need to stand strong and start fighting back instead of 'whimpering'. I'm actually hoping to talk to my MP this election and mention e-cigs.
Hey.. we can still be polite. Polite is good. But I want to politely make it clear I do NOT want these taxed a penny more than would be on a wristwatch or muffin.
Actually, I would prefer there were ZERO taxes on any vape products. None! Because if they claim smoking costs tax-money and social ills then put the money where the mouth is and make vaping as inexpensive as possible at every turn!
btw.. i can actually remember when a local Doctor pleaded with politicians they do NOT tax nicotine gum. He said if they really want to get people to stop smoking then make the nicotine gum so inexpensive in comparison that masses would choose the gum.
What happened?
Nicotine gum is regulated and taxed like cigarettes and so is the patch making them as expensive (if not more) than a pack of cigarettes.
Anyways, pardon my ranting and rambling but the OP is bang-on and that is the spirit more of us Canadians need to start getting into now.
Add - yes, its great everyone in Canada wakes up and shows huge community spirit over a hockey team HOWEVER imagine if we put just 10% of that same effort and energy into ACTUAL THINGS AFFECTING OUR ACTUAL DAILY LIVES, PERSONAL RIGHTS AND FAMILIES AND BANK ACCOUNTS?
