Well ... maybe not 'broke' it exactly but tried to install new guts from the repair kit I bought some time ago and had no end of trouble. Which doesn't surprise me knowing me but the video make it look so foolproof. Anyway, the bottom line is that I pushed too hard on the 510 head when doing that last little bit of 'snugging' up the bottom piece below the firing pin and now the gasket has pushed up. And, of course, I cannot push it down around the connection. I really should have known better than to try and do this myself. :(

Your are absolutely correct Robert. That is what I tried to do. The problem now is trying to get it out without breaking it. Taking the old one out was easy as you just 'snapped' that bottom step piece of but, obviously, I cannot do that now as this is the only center post I have. I will work with it a bit and see what I can do. sigh ... I hate being without my REO!

Okay - limited success. I managed to 'unscrew' the bottom of the connector and finally get the firing pin off of it so now have the connector re-seated properly (gasket in FIRST). Now my problem is that I cannot get the firing pin back on. I simply cannot force it on over the bottom of the firing pin. It looks so simple in the video but it simply will not easily snap on ... I'm afraid of bending it totally out of shape trying to force it on. Will re-watch the instructions again to see if there is something I am missing. It simply cannot be that difficult as I know many of you have done this.

Your always welcome to send it to me I always go easy on folks that tried to do it themselves . I understand it can be difficult to do most things are if you have never done it before . Don't be hard on yourself

How could you not love this guy?

Bet you all understand better now why I am so reluctant to go the Reomizer route ... ;)

With that said, however, if I can't get it on tonight, I guess sending it back and asking you to just rebuild it is the only viable option. Sigh ... you are a gem, Rob! I just hate the thought of being without it for a few weeks - no jab at you, this is strictly postal service issues! Seems to take forever - well, okay, especially when you are waiting for your Reo. And that, I know, everyone understands!

You can watch pbusardo video!
It starts at the 25 minute!
Here's the link: A PBusardo Review - The Reo Grand - YouTube

THANK YOU!! Although he followed exactly the same steps as a the tutorial video I watched, maybe it was the camera angle or maybe it was just that my frustration level had dropped from walking away from it for the day when I was at work but when it came to a certain critical part, I saw immediately what I had done wrong. Took me a fair amount of time to correct my error (I am far too humiliated to admit what it was) but the end result is ... SUCCESS!! OMG! This really is such a simple process and I must be the only person on the face of the earth that can take a 10 minute operation and turn it into a 3 hour marathon! Arghh!! But again ... the end result is the only thing that counts, right? :D

However ... now that I have done it once and truly understand the order of the steps to be taken ... am tempted to order the 'new and improved' innards. Yes, I still had the old repair kit, lol. Hadn't needed to use it until now. Best leave well enough along for now though. When I can convince myself that I am capable of the Reomizer, I will order it all. In my defense, once I have done it right, then I remember. But, by God, getting to that 'first right time' can be a real journey!

Thank you everyone for all of your tips and advice. There is nothing worse than that panic moment when you realize that your REO isn't working! Life looks a lot better all of a sudden. :toast:
