Hello everyone.

This is unusual for me to join forums. However, I started vaping about 3 weeks ago and so far have no intentions of moving back to the cigs. But to be honest as I'm such a novice to this and didn't realise how technical vaping really can be I feel as though Im wasting money and not getting the best experience out of vaping.

So here I am coming to you all for some help and guidance!

SO let me begin. I've purchased an IPOW 2 battery with a Kanger EMOW mega tank, this ranges between 3 - 15 WATTS. My first go at vaping was great then suddenly went very downhill the next couple days. the liquid started tasting horrible and was hitting my throat really bad. I switched to a little less nicotine and a juice that was 70% vg and LOVED it.

So that was great, I found a liquid vg/pg and nicotine ratio I enjoyed so all was well... for a little while.

Next day I had a horrible taste again and was told that my coil needed changing (even though it had only been a week) I bought some new coils (kanger dual 1.5 ohms) fired the vape up and it was great again. Then after a couple days my liquid was tasting absolutely disgusting again but not burnt, just horrible. I binned the liquid, cleaned out all my equipment and have just bought some new fruity liquids from G2 and alpha which so far im enjoying a lot more so I think Ill be sticking to fruity liquids.

However, After only a couple days since changing coils I noticed the burnt taste was back so reluctantly changed coils again.

Now im trying another liquid I've had and its nice but Im getting this really spicy taste which Im aware might be the nicotine? but also again a slight burnt taste :-x:-x:-x

What I really need to know is what watts to use with what coils etc? ive been keeping to 10 watts on this ipow 2 with the 1.5 ohms but im confused as to why it seems to be that I keep needing to change coils as i was told they should last about 2 weeks.

ANY advice would be really appreciated on what wattage to use etc and maybe even some advice on what products to look at upgrading to for a better overall experience.

Thanks again all.

P.S I always let me liquid sit in the tank for about 10-15 mins after filling before firing it up.

Hi, Don. Welcome to ECF, and congrats on making the switch!

Um, coil life.... Many things will impact that. Darker flavors generally reduce it, clear ones not so much. Giving a time is, imo, absurd. How many mls of juice may be more meaningful. Heck, a coil could last months - if it takes that long to go through 10mls!

In general, with any resistance coil, just start at the lower end of your device's range. If the vape isn't good, step it up and vape. Do that until the flavor starts to go off, then back down the last step or two. Starting at too high a setting can singe the wick, and then, even if "new", it may be necessary to replace. (It does sound like you're on the right track after filling, but try this as well - take a few un-fired "priming" draws first. That helps to pull juice into the wick.)

Spicy taste... yes, could be the nic, as some can have a peppery flavor, but it could also just be the particular flavor. Whichever, if you don't like it, don't get that one again. Getting flavors that you like is a big part of the "battle" of the switch. And we all like different things.

My guess would simply be - yes, you just need to change the coils.
How much liquid are you going through in a day and are you completely sure, the dial didn't at some point turn in your pocket and you're vaping at 15w?

I'm using those 1.5 ohm Kanger dualcoils in Aerotanks on 11W - and I have 4 of those tanks on rotation (and some others too). I can taste the need to change the coils app once a month. That - on each coil - gives an average usage of 10 tanks = 25 ml of juice before i taste the need for a change.

Edit: on very dark juices it only takes 3-6 tanks to gunk the coil badly.

Thank you both for the quick replies, nice to see im joining into an active and helpful community :)

Id say it usually takes me 1 or 2 days more like 2 though to smoke a tank generally but i feel like the taste seems some what ruined after one day of using. surely it cant be normal to need to replace the coil every 2 tanks?

And nope I usually always have a quick check on the watts before using and its always on 10.

I guess ill replace the coil again and use a lower watt for now and see how it goes with these new liquids I've got.

A few months ago i bought an Arctic tank and some 0.5 ohm coils for it. I run it on 36 watts at 8 ml a day the flavour is tobacco and is a clear liquid. I am getting 4 weeks out of a coil. I used pro tank 2 for about a year and the most i would get out of a coil is a week. If i were you i would upgrade to a defender 36watt and an Arctic tank. Excellent setup and that's what I use.
Vape on and live long

I visited a new vape shop yesterday. As people came in and asked questions l sat and listened. Some of what I heard was at best innocent misleading.
Most coils are doing well to last 1-2 weeks, certain liquids can finish them off in 4-5 days and kanger are renowned for short life span. It annoys me people tell new vapers to "expect" 2 weeks or whatever, there are too many variables. I would expect an emow atomizer to go downhill in 3 days with a strong flavoured liquid. If you want to vape 10w plus, you need to get an atomizer that gives you a chance.

Yep unfortunately one of the first rude awakenings you get is those coils are not going to last as long as you thought;
that's why many people end up going rebuildable.

With a rebuildable you wrap your own coil, plus you can use thicker wire, which means your coils can last much longer; unfortunately, you end up having to rewick about as often as you'd have to have changed coils, but cotton is cheap. My 30 gauge and 28 gauge coils run for months; dryburn/rewicking might be every 3 days to a week.

Welcome aboard...:toast:

How do you vape, mouth-to-lung, or straight lung hits?

Knowing this could help lead you to some good equipment.

Thanks guys. I do both but i tend to do more straight lung hits but then I also like smoking it like a normal cigarette as it fufills that craving I get to smoke a cig. The only thing that puts me off these custom builds is i just feel I dont have enough knowledge to even begin thinking about doing it plus one of the reasons I moved to vaping was at the time it seemed cheaper than smokes, which so far it is. But I do like the idea of havin. A very good e-cig even if that means building my own, i just need the knowledge first.

Maybe I could move on to a more advance system that has a better tank, better coils, better power etc that is already set up for you but At the moment im only vaping to replace smoking cigs so nothing too crazy. All im after is a smoke that has a satisfying cloud, good taste and give me an enjoyable experiance. I dis have a look at one called kanger subbox mini which looks pretty cool, i wouldnt mind spending more if it was worth it.

I dont even know brands! The only brands I know are kanger and aspire as thats what the guy in the shop showed me. Im literally clueless so ANY advice is much appriciated, even if its some totally random that you just wished someone told you guys when you first started out.

Thanks again.

Don't rush it. The first important thing is to get off the cigs, and whatever hardware does that is fine.

Having backups is also critical. Don't want to be some time in as an ex-smoker and have your one-and-only anything fail!

So a second power source, topper, lots of spare coils.... and, of course, flavors you like in the right nic concentration for your needs.

The Subbox is a good setup, and there are a lot of others. You need to decide if you want to go with replaceable battery types or built in. Lots to choose from in both sorts. Most all will accept any 510 base topper, and eGo threaded ones with an adapter. (Replaceable battery mods will also require at least 2 batteries and a charger, adding to the initial cost. But when the battery eventually "wears out", you mod isn't trash material.)

Cruise some of the other threads, hardware, device specific and so on, for more ideas. Window shop and when you see something you think you might like, look around ECF for reviews and comments. If you can find a likely device in a shop, hold it, see if it's comfortable in your hands. That makes a difference as well! (You may or may not want to pay their markup. Some are reasonable, some not...)

^^ What David said is right on the money, and EVERY juice will be different, especially between manufacturers.

Sounds like you want more vapor than that tank can dish out. Those coils are pretty small, small wicks fast gunk up. That's why the coils go bad fast because your hitting it harder than it is capable of? Maybe? Grab a device capable of 20 watts and a subtank mini with some pre built coils,, do like David says, let the coils soak good, start low power raise till it starts to go bad and lower and keep it there. Should last a week or more a coil. Be vapor heaven compared to the starter device you have. Subtank mini rebuild is easy with a little study, and a regulated device with all its built in protection is pretty safe. I tend to change cotton after 3 or 4 tanks. I think vaping is a gradual progression, to get your vaping lungs and clean them out of tar. Before you know it you are building duel coils in a rda and blowing clouds, but you can't really do that when you first get off the stickies. You started right.

Definitely sounds like my first few weeks of vaping!

I quickly upgraded to a mech and RDA and spent a few hours hanging with experienced vapers who taught me how not to blow my face off by building my own coils. Never turned back and have had great vaping experiences since then.

The good news is that beginners don't have to suffer while gaining all important knowledge now-a-days. There's so many great little box mods/tank combos out there that you should be able to find something that works for you.

My niece started vaping recently and I got her the EVIC VT mini right off the bat and she loves it!
