okay first off let's assume i know nothing about electronic cigarettes. lol i know some i've been researching for a few days now.. i was all ready to commit to a certain brand until i came across this forum.

okay so here is what i actually need advice on:
What brand or model do you guys recommend for someone who smokes about a half to whole pack of cigs a day?? i smoke american sprit lights. i mean nicotine content has to vary among the different distributors right?
Also, ecigs are they more healthy, or should i say not as bad as regular cigarettes?

how much does it cost to use to ecigs each month after the initial investment?

I'm sorry to just come on here and bombard you with questions but i'm really clueless when it comes to this:confused::confused:

S'ok. We get it all the time :)

There's really no "best" ecig. You'll probably hear umpteen recommendations for the Ego, and I'll second 'em. It's a great starter, great performer, and you're virtually guaranteed to have a good initial experience. Watch MisstressNomad's videos for newbies (they're in a sticky at the top of the New Members forum). She reviews, specifically, the two most popular models of "cigarette"-sized ecigs, the KR808 and the 510. I started on the 510, it got me off the stinkies, then moved on up to the Ego. You can think of the Ego as a 510 on steroids; same manufacturer, same threading, same voltage... just a much, MUCH bigger battery.

Juice is going to vary, it's very subjective. I suggest trying lots of small bottles (3-5ml "samples") in different flavors and strengths, and be prepared to re-order larger quantities of what you like within about a week. MINIMUM 30ml to start with, but don't get it all the same flavor... you wouldn't want to get stuck with 30m of something you can't stand, right?

If you get into DIY, it can cost a lot less than smoking. I smoked about $180 of American Spirit Blues per month; now I'm vaping about 3ml a day at 25mg... I added up my cost (including an allowance for cartos, attys, battery replacement, and a "fudge factor"), and came up with ~$45 per month. Pretty good savings, and I enjoy it more.

As far as the health thing.... well, all I can tell you is, I firmly believe they saved my life. They might not be *good* for you, but they certainly aren't as bad as the 4,000+ chems in real cigs, at least in my opinion. I feel better than I have in years. You kind of have to experience it to really understand it.

Good luck...

Hi and welcome to ECF.

What brand or model for a 1/2 to 1 pack a day? Something with a bigger battery like an eGo or Riva is what I'd recommend. If you get a mini you'll be tied to your charger all the time.

Are e-cig's more healthy? I wouldn't say they are healthy, but a couple of studies have shown that they're a heck of a lot safer than tobacco.

How much does it cost monthly to use e-cig's? It depends, if you mix your own juice and vape about average, you can probably get by on $25 or less. If you vape 10 ml of high price juice a day, it'll probably run you a few hundred bucks a month. The average vaper uses +/-3 ml/day. Average juice cost is ~50 cent/ml. That works out to around $40 to $50/month. If you get addicted to buying new toys all the time you won't end up saving any $$$ for a long time.

Hey, I'm new to ecigs as well. I've researched quite a bit, and if you would've asked this question 2 months ago, I would have said get the 510 starter kit. BUT, the eGo-T (Tank) has just recently been introduced and IMO as a beginner, you can't go wrong with it. It's easy to understand and has great flavor etc etc. The eGo-T is being sold as Tornado-T from Totally Wicked or the Inferno-T from Volcanoecigs. Be advised though, that spare parts are more expensive for the "Tank" than for any other model.

I've had my Tornado-T for 4 days or so, and since three days only been vaping on that. I completely stopped smoking 'analogs' reg cigs and I was smoking a pack a day at least.

Hope that helps & you can check out youtube for reviews of the eGo T, Tornado T, or Inferno T vs the 510 models.

The ego-t is really nice, but would not give the same "feel" of a cigarette, unless you like feel of a mini cigar as well. A 510 is a real good compromise, because all the parts for it work on an ego, and vice versa. While I enjoy an ego very much, my original joye 510 batteries still work like the day I bought them over a year ago, and there is something to be said for that.

I used to smoke the exact same cigarettes, and about the same amount (15~ a day). I started off with a Joye 510, and I LOVED it... except for the battery life. Took me about a week to order an eGo, and I haven't looked back.

Being that I smoked Lights, I started off on 12mg juice, but it never quite satisfied me, even with constant puffing, and once I went to 24mg it's been smooth sailing. Keep in mind, that the type you smoked really has very little to do with what strength juice you need. I gave my old 510 to a friend that smoked a pack a day of marlboro reds, and 24mg was too strong for her- she went with 18mg.

I go through about 45ml of juice a month so it really depends on how much the juice you buy costs for how much. Always keep an extra atty or 2 on hand. Having to wait for a replacement for your only atty is basically going to make you go buy a few packs of analogs. Make sure you have an extra battery or 2 on hand for the same reason.

The last person I switched to vaping got the Riva kit from LF, and a big bottle from FSUSA for less than the cost of a carton, and she can last at least a month on that.

okay well i'm ordering the eGo starter kit it comes with extra parts, so hopefully that will not be an issue.. i was considering the 510 but oddly enough they were out of stock, so it made my decision much easier lol..
Do you guys have any recommendations on flavor? they are sending me a marbello 8mg in my cartridges now, lol i'm not really sure what to expect, sounds like marlboro which i've never been a fan of.

Also, i would like to thank you guys on the quick quality responses you all provided.

Order a bottle of 18mg juice as well.

The 8mg is weak for a former smoker and I suspect wont satisfy you.

Just pick any flavor you think you'll like. At first it will seem strong. After a few days you'll get used to it and wont taste as much of it.

Right now I'm vaping 555, which I understand is based on a British cig brand. At first it seemed perfumy. But has settled down to a nutty tobacco-like flavor. Some say to them it tastes like peanut butter. I can't exactly say that, but it's fine.

Sounds like you made a good choice. One of the greatest things about the manual eGo is that you can use it with carts, cartos, and can try dripping with it as well. Helps you explore. Too, most parts are interchangeable with the 510 parts and, if you ever want to go with a T (tank) your eGo battery will work with it and all you need to get is a Tank atty and tank tips.

You will probably not find a typical substitute for analog smoke, but I agree that you should just get some e-liquids and try them. Often a good idea to go with something that sounds good to you (heavy sweet tobacco, sweet desserts, burley, whatever). Most places have sample sets you can get very cheaply to try out - will help you decide the direction you may go at first.

As your taste buds clear up, your tastes may change. Many menthol haters ended up loving menthol in vape. Do not throw any that you hate away - you may find you like it later or can change it up to something usable. If all else fails, you may get a trade in the forum here.

Good luck and good choice - enjoy!

Since you've already ordered, it's a moot point, but I've recently become involved with a group of people who had serious motivation to try vaping (new housing rules barred analogs outside their apartments). Every single one who started with the eGo gave up on vaping. Many of those who started with a 510 gave up. None of those who started with an 808 gave up, although a couple of them did move on to an eGo or mod.

I love black cherry, although the Very Cherry from VaporsEtc. is very nearly my favorite.

Since you smoke lights and won't be vaping constantly, you should be fine with either of the two most recommended slimmish models, 510 or KR808D-1
One person's comparison guide:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...st-electronic-cigarette-first-time-vaper.html

I recommend a PCC for either for charging on the go. The 510 is more the size of a cig but has approx 2/3 the battery charge life of the KR8. (1.5-3 hours vs 2.5-5 hours) KR8 is fatter and 120mm long. At work and home I use AC to USB charger and use the PCC on the go.

If you require longer battery then you need to step up to the somewhat fatter version of the 510, the Ego, or similar model which will give 6-8+ hours battery charge.

Regardless of which you get, you will be refilling with ejuices of your choice.

well, that's a bummer to hear..why do you suppose that is? the simplicity? if i have 5 cartridges it seems as though i could just fill them all up and use them whenever i need correct?

Don't worry dude.. you can get 2 piece style cartomizers for your ego, and they make ginormous ego only cartomizers that hold like 2.5 ml apiece, although you will have a good time with what you ordered. An eGo may look slightly different than a cigarette, but it's pretty slick looking on it's own. Bradder had it right when he said the thing was versatile, and in a market that can be sometimes unreliable that is a very good thing.

i ordered some black cherry flavor sounded interesting... i went with 24mg tho hopefully it isn't too overwhelming

No, actually that's a good choice as a first e-liquid for a former smoker.

It's only slightly stronger than 18mg. If it's too strong you can cut it with a little USP glycerin available at most drug stores. I doubt you'll find that to be the case.

In fact, the stronger stuff is a better value and most DIY's buy the strongest stuff available then cut it and add more flavor if desired.

I don't believe that for one second.... that's just a coincedence, it's got nothing to do with the 510, EGO or the 808. More like the ones with the 808 were more dedicated to quitting or had a more appropriate level of nic in their juice that they needed to keep them happy with vaping. All of those choices of equipment are excellent choices.

Had you said the ones that quit started with smokeshop cheap analogue style e cigs with prefilled carts, I would have agreed with you....

If you are a "avid vapor" you would know what you stated is rubbish..... sheesh
