I'm new to vaping and have been using primarily eGo-T 960 mah with CE4 clearos. At first I loved this set up! Last night that changed.

Both clearos started tasting really burnt and irritating my throat. Bad. So bad I didn't even vapor on my way home from a 16 hour shift! If I tried I couldn't quit coughing and hacking.

So, came home, cleaned and dry burned both of them. One turned out good as new. The other was still a bit sludgy inside...almost looks like a film or milky coating mixed with condensation. I proceeded to clean and dry burn that one again. No better.

Now I don't know if I'm going to ruin juice putting it in the sludgy clearo. Unfortunately I somehow fried my 808 batts and don't have any 510 cartos or other tanks...and don't get paid til Friday. If I can't use the second clearo, I'm gonna be in a world of hurt...(I don't wanna run out of gas or starve in the meantime because I spend yet even more on vaping stuff)...any thoughts?

Hi kristlynngirl, if the CE4 is what some people call Stardusts I don't know but the SD's are all I use anymore. With the juices I vape they work great but some "dark" or "strong" juices just don't play well with these. I find after a few top ups(I never let 'em
get below half) the liquid starts getting darker in colour. It's at this point I dump the leftovers into my "sludge" bottle
and just give the thing a few quick rinses and shake-outs under the tap using cool water.

If I let it go too long before dumping out the old liquid, or the flavour is beginning to get yucky soon after topping up,
I'll do a more thorough rinse and trickle some water(cool) down through the tube from the bottom of the unit a few times.

Then shake it out a few times, dry everything off and do the dry-burn.

I find by keeping new/fresh juice in a clean unit and not running it with "burnt" or "darker" juice for very long
keeps them in better running condition for longer periods.

If you are not into DIY, dumping 1/2 a mil. of liquid out every couple of days is a little more costly but in the end
your either gonna have to pay for more juice or pay for more clearos either way, it's gonna cost you somethin'.
It is still cheaper than smoking, either way you slice it, and better for you!

Because I do a little DIY I can salvage my sludge bottle by thinning it way down with plain PG or VG with nic levels
of my choosing and add extra flavouring to the mix to taste. The main juice in my sludge bottle is my DIY Vanilla
(my ADV) so it makes it easier to reuse it by adding a little more flavouring to the re-mix.

At 5 bucks a pop getting back-ups for your back-ups should only cost you a twenty spot or so. And if you only fill one clearo at a time and carry a bottle of juice with you to top up with, those four clearos could last you for months if you never let them get too sludgy.

With clean juice in the clearos all the time, dumping it back into the original bottle when I want a flavour change isn't a big issue. Mixing a complimentary flavour can be a nice change too.

I've just started using the rebuildable Stardusts and the cleaning is even easier with these ones.

I hope your vaping experience improves as you gain more experience with these things and I also hope some of the
above ideas help improve it quicker for you. They have for me.

All the best, Cheers :vapor::vapor:

As far as throat irritation, there are some who think silica wicks are not good for the throat and perhaps more.

While I'm not suggesting that everone 'roll they own' cottons wicks and coils, it might be good to take a look at this thread.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/284030-wick-materials-safe-vs-dangerous.html

The first post explains the findings of EvilGrym. On down the line is lots (and lots) about various materials. Many have settled on cotton in various forms. I can't at this time suggest where to start and what to skip, but a query at the end of the thread might yield some good feedback from thread watchers.

I ordered some BOGE cartos to try and narrow down whether it's the wicks in the clearos or the juice I'm vaping that's irritating my throat. I'm thinking it's the clearos. I was using an 808 with cartos until I burned up the battery and I had no irritation at all.

One of my clearos decided to break on me after cleaning. They're identical buy one came out good as new, and the other actually broke! The silver ring at the top where the drip tip screws in came off. So did the plastic inside the ring. Seriously it's like someone cut it on purpose. No shattering. No jagged edge. Totally clean break.

What flavor of juice were you using with the clearomizer that fell apart. There are some flavors (most notably cinnamon, citrus, acidic, but also others) that are pretty well known to break down the polycarbonate plastic the clearos are made of. This can be a slow process, or almost immediately.

This. Clouding is not something that will happen from residue. That's the plastic breaking down.

Also, I agree with the comment above about the Phoenix bottom coil clearomizers. They truly are amazing. They're just kind of a pain in the .... to fill if you run out of liquid on the go.
