I hear people rave about carto tanks and I don't get it! I've tried them and can get no satisfaction from them, tight draw and no flavor.
I got a cheap one the first time so I thought that might be the problem. When I got my ProVari I decided to give it another try with a kir fanis Prive tank with 3ohm Boge cartos. I watched Bads vids and read posts. Still no go. I've done the condom soak and used a syringe to fill them so I know there getting primed fully and they vape with out burning. I've used a dremmel to make a cut on the other side from the laser cut hole for more flow. I've used low volt and over 5.I guess that's why they make so many different toppers. I'm thinking there just not for me, not for lack of trying though!

I would attribute this to wicking issues. I use 3hole smoktechs, and I don't get problems. I've tried ikenvape and boge, and I pretty much might as well use them without a tank from how much I have to drip in them. I'm going to give ikenvape another chance. I'm going to let them soak over night, and if that works I'll try it on boge also. Smoktechs I can use a syringe easier to prime them. I haven't bothered boaring out the holes. Some flavors probably need them to be..

That is odd. How I have been using Ikens is my tanks and not had any problems at all.

What kind of atomizer were you using before trying carto tanks?

I use carto tanks almost exclusively because of the good clouds and flavor. There are a few flavors that don't seem to work well in carto tanks, but I have not been able to decern why.

Tight draw is not usually a problem with new fresh cartos. I also use them with a Provari and I might know why your draw is so tight. The end caps on most carto tanks are flat, as is the top cap of the Provari. You may have the tank pushed down tight against the Provari and cutting off air flow. Try sliding the tank up the carto JUST A LITTLE BIT, like the width of a piece of paper and see if that helps.

More air flow will also help with the flavor.

Other than that, maybe carto tanks are just not for you.

I use boge LR XL single coil 2 1mm laser holes at 2.0 ohms. They work really well for me. I DIY and mix at 60/40 PG/VG and never have a dry hit or flooding issues. I get on average (100 carts purchased in a group buy) 4.5 days use. When the flavor becomes muted I toss them. when I used vendor liquids I only averaged 3 days use since vendor flavors typically have a higher flavor percent.

Agree with most of the comments. I can take any smok or Ikenvape carto, stick a toothpick in the hole, fill it and let soak in, do this two/three more times and its done. 10 minute process. Ive never had a dry hit. Best flavor short of Dripping atty.I keep mine 60/80% full and are usually laid on their side. Keep 8 full usually. I vape between 3.5 to 4.0 Volts.....

I use 2.5 to 3.2 ohm smoke or Ikenvape, single coils, two hole laser punched. IBTanks.

Yeah, tried that too. The boge's I have came with a big laser cut hole in them that was a little high for my tank so I slid it up about 1/8 in and still the same.
Oh and I'm currently using a SS Tatroe tank with a 1.8ohm vertical coil and cotton build. Much more flavor and big old clouds at 4.9 volts. Not a hint of burning and fill and go! It works like a tiny carto tank and pulls though a little ring of cotton instead of all that poly fill.
I just keep hearing that carto tanks are the bomb?

I ordered some Ikenvape cardo's the other day to give them a try before this becomes my last resort vape.

It does seem like people have a different experience with delivery devices. As a general rule I have been unhappy with cleromizers except for a couple but I have had a better time with large carto tanks.

Another example going the other way. A lot of people really like the eRoll and it is not working for me yet. No flavor.

I doubt I will be using the eRoll much at all. I will use the other cigalikes when I want hands free.

Carto tanks have given my very little trouble after my first week with them. I have been on carto tanks after since my first month on this forum.

I don't go through all the steps that others do out here but have more then one tank that makes it eaiser.

I have been using Ikenvapes prepunched. All I do is maybe put 4 or 5 drops into the cartomizer and install it. I then take a two or three unpowered hits and then keep using my other tank. I just let it soak on though the tiny hole for awhile. After maybe 5 or 10 minutes pass I take a unpowered hit then start using power.

I have not burned a carto doing this, a carto will last me a week or longer.

I have been finding cartos really easy and trouble free.

Notice there's been no mention of "slotted" cartos... Have you tried those? I use Boge slotted and have had no probs at all with them... Started off using laser-cut holes and experienced similar probs to what you've mentioned... Switched to slotted and the probs disappeared... :)

I thought about trying the Ikenvape slotted cartos but chose not to.

I have had 0 issues with Ikenvape punched cartos so didn't see a reason to try the slotted ones.

My experience is that, if you run a single flavor 100 VG juice, or an 80/20 pg juice, carto tanks are great. I use my standard phiniac and boge cartos. I slot mine with a dremel for the VG blends, but I feel 80/20 (thinner juices) are more cut for the job nomatter what. Also, I personally feel some juices taste better in a carto than anything else, and some taste muted in a carto.

I have noticed (and it ...... me off) that flavor is also highly effected in a carto setup by how long you steep your juice. I had some stuff that I left alone (didnt uncap or steep properly) for about 2 days. Loaded it up in a fresh carto and BLEH... GARBAGE!

If you invest in a quality tank (BDV, IBTanked, etc) and then get a decent carto you should be good as long as you steep properly. I am stockpiling juice right now because I want a longer sit period from the manufacturer. I am steeping my HHV and juice a buddy makes for a week at a minimum before I even try to load a carto. Then I will taste test in an unpunched carto and make sure its good to go before investing more juice.

So far I liked my smoks to my Boge cartos for the sole reason of longevity. However, I am noticing the Boge is nearly immediately flavorful. Most cartos take a day and a half to a 2 days to fully soak in the flavor (depending on how heavily you vape also). These are all just observations of mine and I hope they contribute in some way. Give it another shot and im sure you will find better success :)
