When I started vaping 4 years ago, I started with cartomizers. Then I was introduced to dripping about two months in. I loved dripping, and actually dripped until I quit vaping all together.

Today I got in the Big Dripper RDTA (probably a clone), and put it on the Beacon mod that I bought this weekend. I installed the coils that came with the RDTA, and put organic cotton that I also bought at the vape store.

First vape was KILLER. It was like smoking that first cigarette again. It was HOT, and hit my lungs like a freight train. It was about quadruple what my Aspire Nautilus on my Segelei V5 is.

Is the vapor supposed to be THAT hot/warm? I have no idea what ohm this is running at, but I'll be going to the vape store tomorrow or the next day. They guy there said he'd help me build coils and show me how to properly use it, as well as put it on the voltmeter and see where I am.

But dang this this is putting out vapor!

If you have no I dea what ohms it is you should not be using it.
If your going to use a mech and a rba you MUST have an ohms meter and dmm or your playing with fire.

I'm not going to use it full time until I can get over to the vape store and make sure that

a.) I have it set up correctly,
b.) It's operating at a safe ohm level,
c.) I'm taught how to maintain it properly.

I just put it together tonight to make sure that it is functioning properly, and tried it out once or twice. Like I said, the guy at the vape store is going to help me get going since I'm a hands on/visual learner.

A hot vape is most likely not enough airflow for the build you are running my 2 cents.

The air hole are fully open, but maybe I have too much cotton in there.

It's not steam level hot, but it's noticeably hotter than what I've been using, and what I remember it being.

I wouldn't use it at all since you have no idea what resistance you're running it at, and you didn't provide battery specs of what you're using. It's a nice recipe for disaster. Yes the vapor can be relatively hot due to multiple factors. One being airflow and another being low resistance.

As for going to the store and learning how to rebuild. By all means I definitely suggest but I live in the same city as you. Most of the people that work in these vape shops care more about clouds than safety. I've seen noobs walk out of the store with 0.1 ohm builds. I understand the process and terms can be a little intimidating. I've been in your shoes once too. But the guy at the store is literally going to show you how to wrap a wire around a screwdriver. All the info you need is here and on youtube.

I would normally completely agree with you, however the local store I'm going to is very reputable and the guy is highly knowledgable. I've been in a few of these stores, and I know what you're talking about, but this isn't one of those places and he isn't that kind of guy. PM me and I'll tell you where I go if you're curious.

And I just built my own coils out of 26g Kanthal which I bought from him on Saturday. He stated to wrap each coil around 7 or 8 times, and I should be in the 'range' that I need to be. I did 8 on each. I replaced the cotton, and rejuiced it and it is much better than whatever the coils were that came with it.

Still though, I've packaged everything up in a bag and will visit him tomorrow afternoon on my way home from work.

ETA: Its an 18650 flat top. Red wrapper. I have no idea what brand.

So today I made new coils and put new organic cotton in. The coils are 26g Kanthal wrapped around a 2.4mm screwdriver, with 10 wraps. I've got dual coils in my Beacon. I took it to the vape store and it metered at .61 ohms.

I'm using the same 18650 flat top batter, but I did change juice to a 70/30 vg/pg mix.

The difference was very noticeable. It was barely warm at all, and the increase in vapor was significant. I was able to draw on it longer as well.

The coils I had first built were 8 wraps. Would this small change make the difference in the warmth of the vapor?
