I fail at soldering :-(

Your iron will work.
Make sure the iron tip is clean and tinned.
Place the tip on the battery connector.
Place a little solder on the iron tip so the solder makes a bridge between the tip and the connector.
Then wait.
The solder bridge will help to conduct heat to the battery connector.
The battery connector is a big lump of metal and it conduct heat away from the tip.
So for the solder to work you must heat a large part of the connector.
Place the tip of the solder on the connector and eventually it will melt.

let me make sure i am doing this right, say i want to solder (or well even just pre tin) my wire to the outside of the connector, I should put the iron tip on the inside wall of the connector and heat through it like is done with wire right?

Stick that Iron where you want to solder but also know that if you are making a mod with a hole to slip the connector in it won`t fit with solder on the outside.

see heres the problem i see, theres a double edge sword that goes with soldering, a iron thats too cold = it doesnt get hot enough to stick.
Iron too hot it pulls the solder right back from the point your trying to solder to back to the iron. when i get my connections for my mod box il make a video of me tinning those pieces on a 12watt iron.

Send it to one of these guys with a wire and a stamped return envelope and I'll bet they will do it for you. Just PM one of them.

this is with a 12 watt wellar which gets too 800 degrees. the best soldering iron for less then 20 dollars imo.

Made this earlier, hope this helps a bunch of people. Stay with a 12 - 15 watt iron and let that sucker preheat properly, tin everything using flux and try your best to be confident.

I didn't hold anything for a long period of time or try to make the mettal super hot, i held the iron at the point and fed it solder. real quick and simple

You also have to heat up the connector where you are soldering to but make sure you take out the rubber piece in there . it doesn't have to get white hot but a good 10 sec before you acutely put the solder to it should do the trick i also use a 30Watt solder iron and it works great.

I found that it is a little difficult to solder onto these connectors but just try what i said it will work

good vid, may help me when i decide to give it another try, though your solder looks much thinner then the stuff i got from madvapes with my iron, also i am using 24ga wire as i can't find anything smaller in this damn small town (though i didn't check at radioshack so maybe) that and my irons tip is rather large compared to yours. perhaps all of this is causing my problems

It seems to me that mods being sold using souldering would not be as reliable as those who have no wires or souldering. The tiny wires can break easy where the other connectors are metal to metal. I realize some of the people making home made mods do not have the technology to use connectors. The only mods that I will buy do not have souldering.

You are operating under a misconception - since there is no movement to stress the connection, wired connections are fine.

This is absolutely correct. If soldered properly, a connection that is not under physical stress will last forever. I've never understood why "solderless" was a selling point.

I thought soldering was some impossible to learn black art untill i found this:

Just dip the hot tip into the cleaner and it comes out clean and tinned. Since I started using this stuff I am a pro at soldering anything. No more overheating and destroying parts.

When you finish soldering, unplug your iron and dip it one more time, and let it cool. Your tip will be protected and ready to go the next time you use it!

Try holding the side of the tip against the connector. I have a cheap-o harbor freight 30w iron and the point does not get hot enough to solder the connectors. If you lay the side of the tip on there for a few seconds, it will work.
