I have two questions for modders... building a pipe, and does anyone build vv mods in a tin for a fee?

Ok, so i just inherited THE COOLEST tin in the universe. Its a cigar, tin, slightly narrower than an altoids tin, and much longer... its about 1 and 2/3s altoids tins in length. I'd LOVE to turn this into a vv boxmod, or even a bottom feeder, since I could just open the front to squonk it. I don't have the tools or the knowhow, though. Does anyone know of anyone who will, for a reasonable price, turn this into something fabulous for me? I just know this will be a showstopper. Its for Cuesta-Rey Centenario cigars, and has the most gorgeous vintage cigar label graphics on it. I've also got a really really snazzy 'american spirit' cigs tin that I'd be willing to throw in as partial trade. That would make a pretty darn snazzy mod, also.

Second, I just got a killer deal on a large jazz-pipe sized wooden pipe. Wondering if anyone knows if there's a tutorial on building a pipe mod? Its shaped almost identical to the epipemods unit that Phil Busardo gave away, so thinking the batt could go in the pipe hole, and just don't know what to do from there. Is there a tutorial on these, anywhere? Just looking for a standard 3.7v mod kind of thing, but it needs to be for a pipe.

Thank you so much, anyone who can help! I just don't know where to turn with odd questions like this. lol And I hope I put this in the right place... i havent quite figured out the new forums.

and speaking of cool tins for mods, I just went hunting for a photo of my cigar tin, and couldn't find it, but did find THIS! Omg.... I'm such a huge mucha fan, and I am absolutely in love. So if anyone stumbles upon this thread, and ends up making a mod out of one of these... holy moly. Please show it off so I can live vicariously. lol And its from a chocolatier founded in 1790 something. That is super snazzy.

hi orachel, i'm afraid i don't know about turning your beautiful sounding cigar tin into a mod, but i can tell you that i just ordered an altoids variable volt mod from smartvapes for about 60 bucks. you can use the code "shinyspal" for an additional 5% off. i had been waiting for this mod to be relisted for months, so if it looks cool to you i would act quickly--they only have like five or six left. it can vape from 3.3 volts to 6.0 volts and runs on two 18650s, so i imagine it has a really long battery life! the 'vaping greek' has a review on youtube which makes this mod seem pretty compelling.

i only wish i knew if it is safer to use the newer AW IMR 18650 3.7v 2000mAh batteries or should I stick to the older AW IMR 18650 3.7V 1600mah batteries? Wondering if I should go with these safe chemistry batteries or should I go with ones with a protected circuit? i don't know what kind of safety features (if any!) this mod has built into it...

best,
pat

Patch, as for the safety features built in... if I had to guess, I'd say nil. Most of the box mod kits don't have any, or perhaps just a cutoff if it gets too hot. I believe if you go up into a model like the varicool, you get those, but I'd doubt it on an altoids mod. As for the batteries... I'd ask in the battery forum (or whatever that has become with the switch). I just had a scare with a cheapo IMR 18650 heating up almost to the point of venting on my trustfire charger. Melted charger, scorched batt... scared the tar out of me. So I did a bunch of research just recently. I can tell you that I am SO not an expert, but from what I understand the IMRs are much safer chemistry, and the thing is... they don't explode. lol Might vent, but won't explode. So from that standpoint, were it me... I'd go GOOD quality IMR, like the AW, all the way. You may also want to look at the Panasonic 2200mah IMRs... they're some sort of IMR hybrid...supposedly even more stable than the AW imrs. They're tricky to find, but right now you can get them at orbtronic, and if he doesn't already, Eric at discountvapers is expecting some in any day, and he's got... bar none... best prices and service in vapeland. rofl Also... and this is key. You want to be using an intelligent charger with the IMRs. As I understand it, a common fault, and what happened to me is that the imrs can cause some sort of a short in the cheapo chargers, like a trustfire, for instance. What happens is they then continue to heat the battery WAAAY past 4.2v that is its maximum capacity. You take an overcharged imr, put it in an unprotected mod, and that's when you have a problem. I did a slew of hunting, because I sure couldn't afford a $50 pila which is the mercedes of smart chargers. BUT I found an awesome review on youtube about a WP2 II bay charger by xtar. Followed that up with a ton of reviews at candlepower. Its an AMAZING charger for the price, and will charge any battery under 70mm. Can't beat it. Eric at DV has cheapest deal I found on it at just under $19. SO... if you get the panny 18650 hybrid imrs (killer mah, too), and use them on an intelligent charger that 'reads' your batteries and stops charging when they get to 4.2.... you're in business. ;) Oh, and very important... apparently xtar makes some other models which aren't nearly as well regarded, so don't get the $13 xtar... its totally different. If you find the 'lavatube noob' thread I set up, I gave a bunch of links, in the last few pages, to where to get the batteries and the charger, if you need em. Good luck! But yeah, especially with a thin metal unprotected mod... I would NOT go standard protected batteries. If theres' severe failure, you get an exploding bat in a thin metal device = shrapnel city... right by your face. No way, jose. ;) Also, always fire a batt for the first time (after letting it rest 15 minutes off the charger) AWAY from your face. Lord Davon gave that tip, and it was brilliant.
Here's the review some kind soul at ecf steered me toward.. and this is what prompted so much research on this charger. Plus, she talks about it in the $25 range, so $19 is a steal. I just LOVE mine, and once I upgrade to the Panny 18650s, 2200mah, I'll feel much safer overall. Waiting till DV gets them, though.lol And I lied...came back to bring you the link. ;)

And totally random, but I'm telling EVERYONE. Just got a $10/oz liquid from him... Peanut Butter Cup... to DIE for. Really really reese's flavored, but a bit 'lighter', so its a good all day-er.

Oh, and thanks so much for the tip about the altoids tin mods! They are so cute and I've always wanted one, but budget won't bear that AND getting my wild tin made into a box, and I'm dying for that. lol I'll post a pic tomorrow of the tin. Its uber cool. lol I love the altoids (and have been saving tins myself for that purpose. lol) but I've already got 3 vv mods. Its more the unique factor of having one noone else has at this point, and upcycling such a cool tin, if that makes sense. lol
