Hey all... So I've been vaping an ego for about a month or 2 now... A friend has a Reo an I like the bottom feed idea... I was debating making a box with a bottom feed...

I'm in Canada and it turns out that vaporgeek.com has some diy parts like 510 threaded base and a few button switches etc... I was thinking of trying to make this out of wood or tin as a prototype but I'm affraid wood is a bad idea although I have seen some nice ones... I figured a tin for cigarettes or a large mint tin might work as a proto until I find a more permanent option...

Is there any links or PDFs or good resources I should know about for wiring setup etc?

Thanks

For your switches, you don't need to buy them online or on a ecigz website. Start by watch in a electronic shop near where you live, you'll have a huge selection and you can see them in person, the size of it the pressure you have to push to turn it on.... I mean you can try it on the spot...

When I was doing my mod I searched for a normally open push button switch that lock when you screw it but it's very hard to find...
I saw that one of the reo model has that switch but could't find it on internet or local....

I was thinking of a simple click switch like most boxed and ecigs have at the top but also an on/off safety switch on the side for safety... Altoids tin was also what I was thinking... I was kindof hoping to make it variable voltage or at least be able to interchange batteries to change the volts....

I'm used to 3.7 on an ego... Any ideas where I can get SAFE batteries in Canada?

Thanks

I've done several mods with altoids, as far as safe batteries go, I prefer to use NiMh. They're dirt cheap, have plenty of power, and can be found at most grocery stores. Also, there are fast chargers available to charge up all 2200 mah ( that's the equivalent of two mega ego's) in 15 minutes. Go find a nice switch and a battery holder for 4 AA's. Ten minutes of soldering, a little jb weld and you're good to go

Quality NiMH AA cells are advertised with capacities as high 2200mAh, but that's with a very low discharge rate. Because the cells have around four times the internal resistance of a similarly sized Li-Ion and you need to run several in series for similar voltage, a lot of power is lost in the cell when running at higher discharge rates. It's probably closer to 1000mAh when powering an atomizer.

Then why do I still get four to five days of chain vaping off one charge?

I don't know. I'd have to try it myself to say. I havn't tried a NiMH powered mod myself. I use 250mA per hour, very heavy vaper. Be interesting so see how long one runs for me.

When looking at a NiMH powered mod on paper, a single cell has around 200mΩ resistance. So, 4 of them in series has around 800mΩ. With an atomizer of 3 ohms, you get a current around 1.6A. Since power is current squared times resistance, You're expending about 2W inside the battery and delivering about 7.5W to the atomizer. Efficiency is around 70%. Since efficiency can be linearly associated with useable capacity, 70% of 2200mAh is 1500mA. So my first claim that capacity would be closer to 1000mAh is low. It would be closer to 1500mAh.
