I just bought a reo grand and I have a battery question

Will a flat top 18650 battery work in this or do I need one that has a nipple on it? I have the flat 18650 at home and use those in my lava tube. But, if I need to get the one's with the nipple protruding on it, I'd like to go on and order them so I don't have to wait to use the reo when it gets here.

Flat top will work. You'll justhave too press the firing button down farther to make a connection. If you are using any low res attys or cartos the AW IMR 18650s are recommended.

It will work, but not well. First, it is likely to misfire because the firing pin won't make consistent contact with the positive battery end. Second, those are usually really big batteries and they will overcompress the spring in your REO. That bypasses a needed safety feature (a short will make the spring collapse and drop the battery away from the firing pin).

To hear most of us talk about the AW IMR's you'd think we all get some sort of kick back from them as for what actually fits and works most all of the 18650's fit and work true some most of the higher mAh rated batteries compress the hell out of the spring but then they're also protected batteries and have a PCB. As for flat or nipples I run the 4.8v nimh batts. in my Grande with no problems. Just saying

People do all sorts of things. But just because you can doesn't mean you should, especially when the solution is relatively inexpensive and effective. The AW IMR's offer the best combination of safety and performance, and are the current recommendation of ECF. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/129569-rechargeable-batteries.html As to the flat tops, they will cause intermittent firing problems. Did I read somewhere that we shouldn't use spacers on flat top batteries if they are a little loose?

If you do, it's safer to use them on the negative pole of the battery.

After I posted this question I saw the vids that Rob made and he said that you could use spacers on either end. Why do you feel that it is safer on the neg end?

If the spacer slides and contacts the body of the mod AND the positive pole of the battery at the same time, it MIGHT create a short circuit and do some harm to the battery, mod, or both. Since the body of the mod is also the ground, a slidey spacer on the negative pole of the battery won't do any harm.

Edit: Obviously, I'm referring to the metal mods, only.
