Hey guys I'm new to vaping. I made my first recipe the other day off a website where the give you the exact amounts. I would just like to know when they say for example strawberry 8% and banana 3%, is that part of the total of how many ml's I want to make? So if I were making 100ml I would times 100 by each flavour % to get exact amounts?
If you were making 100ml 1% = 1ml if you were making a 50ml batch 1% = 0.5ml, if you were making a 30ml batch 1% = 0.3ml

Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify so if I were making a 100ml batch and I'm using a 90vg/10pg Base with 5% banana / 7% strawberry / 3% dragon fruit how do you go about working it all out?
That would be an impossible mix at 90%vg because you're adding 15% flavoring which is pg.

Hello and welcome to the forum @Jasonjardine07. Glad to have you here!:)

For all things DIY head on over to the DIY ELiquid Forum. Lots of great info in all the "stickies". Below is the information I often give to members new to DIY.
Here are some threads you may like to read through for different flavoring companies. Many of the posts include recipes and comments about a specific flavor.

85ml of the base
5ml banana
7ml strawberry
3ml dragon fruit

85+5+7+3 = 100

That would be more in the lines of 80/20 since flavoring is pg based, 80/20 is bacially what most 'Max VG' stuff is.

1ml of liquid would require 0.08ml of flavor.

(0.1ml is 10% (of 1ml), for those that work that way)

8% strawberry is 0.8ml per 10ml.
100ml of liquid would require 8ml.

0.08 x 100 is 8, so you are correct. Depends how you like to think of percentages.

Another way is to divide the total you want to make by 100 and times it by the %.

30ml divided by 100 is 0.3ml.
0.3ml x 8 is 2.4ml.

2.4ml of flavor in a 30ml mix.

and so on. :)

If you have access to the internet you can use one of a hundred different free juice calculators that are out there. Try using that thing called google. Or you could look right on this page and find a couple. Or you can use this simple one : DIY e-juice | Steam Engine | free vaping calculators

These will tell you exactly what you need to add to your mix.

So I can use 85ml vg and because the concentrates are pg based I don't need to add any more pg? So that would classify as 85vg/15pg?

Do you really know whether you flavor is pg based or not?

Chances are you won't really know, and it will vary from flavor to flavor.

If you have no pg, just make a base with vg + 10% water.

And I wouldn't nitpick about being very precise when mixing your first batches

Actually, I believe you meant to say from manufacturer to manufacturer. I can't think of an example otherwise. Most brands (they don't make the flavorings in most cases) are PG. A fewer number are PG-based and some are alcohol-based. A very few (the high-dime Medicine Flower [Lotus at ECX] is the only example of which I'm aware) are pure flavoring without a carrier.

DIY is so darned cool. :)

ETA: If you're unsure of any brand's carrier liquid, just ask any experienced mixologist. Plenty of friendly, knowledgeable people are availble to help!
